i have a 95 gst and i cant figure out why i have white smoke coming from my exhuast. yea they say coolant but i have checked the plugs thier clean. i forgot to mention its a rebuild that i finished but i have this problem now. idle doesnt stay constant. coolant temp normal. i have everything torgued to specs. dont know what it is. someone PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

White smoke indicates coolant. So check and see if your losing coolant. If it's persistant then it's not just burn-off. Do a compression test and make sure your headgasket sealed up correctly. If that's all good, then I'd suggest taking a look at your turbo. A blown turbo will create blow-by and cause coolant to burn and pour white smoke out of the exhaust.

everything is brand new new big 16g turbo. new head gasket port polish head. hoaned block. i have no sign of coolant on my plugs. i know that when imy intake hose came undone i had wihite smoke. im not sure if my MAS went and it sending the wrong mixtures. everyone says coolant but i followed step by step with torgueing. im not loosing coolant. its not over heating. cant figure it out.

Some people actually haven't overheated at all when their headgasket wasn't sealed enough. Check the turbo, and spend the extra $20 - 30 at Advance Auto and get a compression tester if you don't already have one, and do a test. Better safe than sorry.

already check for shaft play doesnt budge at all. ill prob do that tom to find out about compression. even thought im sure its fine. but like u siad better safe then sorry

be careful not to confuse white smoke from the "grey" or also known black smoke.

could from incomplete fuel combustion possibly from a cold engine, clogged air filter, ignition timing off, low engine compression, fuel injection or emissions system malfunction.

any mods you have done, to make your car run way to rich?

good luck!

list of mods:
big 16g
tubular exhuast mani
port polish head
new valve seals
pretty much head job done
hoaned block
full gasket set
replaced cam pos sensor. elimated crank and cam position sensorwith a 1g CAS
findanza flywheel
exedy clutch
nippon pistons and rings
clevitte rod and mian bearings
plugs and wires
new air filter

The mechanic siad timing was good. i had prob with 1 and 4 not firing but fixed that with the CAS. fixed all leaks that i was aware of. torgued everything to specs. dont know what it is. i have a check engine light and im goin to check on that with a OBDII reader. dont know what else to do. im ready to light the damn thing on fire. and its def white smoke. i get coverd in it. also didnt touch fuel injection system.

Still waiting for compression test numbers.
Your turbo will not push coolant if it's blown.

If you're smoking, you're burning something.
Blue is oil
White is coolant
Grey/Black is fuel
Keep a close eye on your fluid levels, as people can sometimes mistake the color of the smoke.
Running a compression test will help us narrow down your problem much more quickly than guessing will.

doing it today after school. if i can get the tester. fluids are fine. coolant temp. good. no oil in coolant and no coolant in oil. plugs are not wet of any substance. no shaft play in turbo. dont know:confused:

nippon pistons and rings
well my car stopped smokin.ROFL i took off the turbo and the down pipe. found some oil in the wastegate housing. dont know if its normal but clean it up anyways. bolt the downpipe back on. but not the turbo to mani. started the car there was not smoke, so it could not have been a head gasket or any of that. i put the turbo back on and still doesnt smoke. well my car heats up in idle but i dont let it go to far. dont know what that prob is. also my battery doesnt want to hold its charge after charging for 15 min while running. im guessing alternator. not a hard fix. also its back firing in idle. im not sure if that becuase of bigger turbo with stock MAS or something. can anyone help????? next on list is FMIC, SAFC or Greddy E-manage, and 3" turbo back exhaust.

Do you mean your car is overheating? Because if it's overheating at idle and your battery isn't holding a charge, then you should check to see if your alternator belt is slipping, or still there for that matter, since it turns the waterpump aswell.

no its there. its a new belt. i just think the alternator went bad cause it was sittin for so long. new one time. dont know if air in the cooling sytem will casue it to heat up but im goin to bleed the system of air. i dont let it get to ther point of overhaeting so i dont know. any suggestions.? thank u all for all the help.

Good place to start. Just go ahead and flush the coolant system and then see what comes of that. Then start it and see if it gets warmer than normal. If it does I'd let it keep going, just not getting to the point where it gets dangerously hot.

well took it to the mechanic to let them figure it out. then somehow my timing went retarded. bent 10 valves. 8 intake 2 exhuast. but gettin the car back today. so hopefully everything goes the way it should. thank u for all the help u guys. your much better then my other form. dsmtalk.com.
