So I'm in the process of assembling my Koni/GC setup, and I'm looking for the coaxial spring hats. I'm going to be running RRE pillow ball plates, so I need them (in the front at least, should I get them for the rear?). The problem is that I can't find any retailer on the internet that has them. The only links I've found go to dead links, or to ATI's website, and it seems that they don't sell them anymore. I was told that GC sold them, but I can't find them on their website. Does anyone have a retailer that actually lists them on their website?

And do you reccoment using them in the rear?

I found a retailer that sells these for porshes. That means its for a 2.25 inch spring, not a 2.5 like I'm going to run. It's also a much more expensive product than I'm looking for. $169/pr. I'm looking for something about 25-40 bucks each, and I don't need something with bearings.

So I found this website that talks about upper bearing hats. It shows a picture of lower bearing perches too. Is it necessary to run those if I'm going to go with upper bearing hats? I guess it make sense that I would have to.

Opens as a pdf.
http://www.smartracingproducts.com/pdfdocs/452390_bilstein_strut_mod.pdf

It looks like a Bilstein part:
Floating spring support (upper): part # 452340

Bearing (lower): part # 452360 sandwiched between two of these
Thrust washer: part # 452370

Edit: That Datsun website in my 3rd post only sells the upper bearing hat, not a lower set. That leads me to believe that a lower set is not necessary.

Edit 2:
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have a coilover upper spring hat without a integrated bearing, make sure to purchase our upper hat system with needle bearings, sold seperately for $50.
Again, it says nothing about lower bearing perches.

Looks like exactly what I was looking for.

T3 = TechnoToyTuning. Below are the pics from the page.

Photo 2: On the left is the Ground Control top hat grinding damage with only 300 miles on the suspension. (When disassembling my front suspension for this article, I found aluminum shavings down around the shaft seal of my strut!) On the right is the Techno Toy Tuning top-hat and roller bearing, 0 miles.

And it seems that Wret suggests using these.

This places uneven pressure on the sides of the spring, making its performance less predictable. The coaxial spring hat uses a spherical bearing, like the pillow ball, but its location allows the spring hat to pivot freely as a unit with the shock shaft.

This doesn't have a spherical bearing though. He probably mistyped.

Since the hat is sandwiched between the collar on the shock's shaft and the lower spacer on the bearing plate, it doesn't need it's own spherical bearing. You can get a hat with a tiny Torrington, put a larger Torrington between the spring and the hat, or just bag the Torrington. (I don't have one.)

In any event, you get the flat hat in that picture from GC. The hole will be a little small for Konis, but it's nothing ten minutes with a Dremel can't handle.

Isn't that what that last thing I posted is? A hat with a small torrington?

I believe you can call up RRE and have them make some up for you . . . not sure on the price though. I am actually surprised that JToby hasn't chimed in on this . . .

I don't care to speculate, but he's since sold his talon. I'm not sure if he visits the board as frequently.

Ah, quite right . . . I had forgotten that he had put it up for sale some time ago . . .
