i was just gonna bring that up...about that lexus. ive looked at them upclose in person and theyre completely metallic...but...dealers also sell cars with tinted front windows, which is illegal in nj...so i dont know whats legal anymore.

wow, wtf at first i was gonna say thats a concept version but heres a pic of one on autotrader and look at that, completely clear. i guess dealers can pretty much do whatever they want. i do know cadiallac catera's have tinted windshields also. must be nice

well couldnt i just put some small reflectors on the back?..then would it be legal?

Hey Guys,

Most of the clear lights I've seen have a small reflective red stripe (can be had at any automotive store sold as tailight repair tape, reflective bagding for trailers, etc) somewhere on the tail light which makes them legal.

Infact, I have a pair sitting in the garage I could post pictures of if some of you are looking for ideas - shoot, I'll sell them to you. Ultimately, I think the chances of getting pulled over have lessened since there is not much to differentiate us now from say the new Lexus SUV.

Oh, gsxstac I'm pretty sure how those were done because I did something similar to another set of clears I had a while ago [hint, the answer has been give once in this thread already ;) ].

I LET MY GIRLFRIEND USE THEM FOR A COUPLE MONTHS WHEN SHE HAD HER GST BUT SHE SINCE SOLD IT AND GOT A 98 TSI AWD SO THEY ARE IN MY GARAGE RIGHT NOW AWAITING MY ECLIPSE REAR END CONVERSION

Clear/white tails painted with transparent red. Looks like you're trying to copy a Civic. :thumbdown

I think we've established that already. Thanks. This is about aquiring clear type headlights, and making sure they won't send you to jail because of it.

Not everyone was clear about it. Thanks for your .001% of reassurance to make it absolutely clear.

haha, i hope you guys dont expect this to NOT be closed if you keep bickering over this stuff

civic? no buddy. bmw's have red/clear, so do lexus sc400 aftermarket lights, so do alot of mercedes cars. not trying to copy any of those but i liked the clear lights but i cant be getting pulled over every day over here in ny so thats why i purchased those lights. i bought them the way you see them. i'll post some pics of other red/clear combo's that are on cars other then hondas.

with thoughs lights you could probally try the L.E.D light bulbs thoughs would probally be bright only if you like the look though

cuz of the legal stance on the lights u should just buy them and paint them to look like the 500$ amber ones

Hey that's my car! If you think I get hassled by cops for having smoked tails, you couldn't be more WRONG. I've never been pulled over for them, and some of the cops in my county are real dicks because I've been pulled over several times for nitpicks (tint before I got rid of it). But never once has a cop mentioned how my taillights were illegal. (and this was in the daytime). At night they light up bright red/orange so that doesn't cause a problem. I bought them off ebay. They're called "smoked altezzas." This was a longggg time ago though. I didn't make them myself, although I wish I could have.

Same here, i LOVE my clears. And as far as the bulbs go, i've had LED's all the way across for about 4 months, but last week i picked up some of those "chromillusion" or whatever theyre called from autozone. not the straight chrome, but the bulb is rainbowed, kinda like oil looks in water. those lights are by far better than the LEDs. i've found the LED's to be too dim, and you can barely see them at all in daylight. these new bulbs are 3 times as bright, and theres still no yellow or red reflection inside the lights. buy those bulbs! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
