Hey Fellow DSM drivers. I have a 1996 eagle talon esi. I have alittle bit of money into it and i dont know what to do next. Any ideas besides turbo and cold-air intake? These are my mods now ...

Motor ...
Top Speed High Performance 4-1 Headers + Downpipe
Catco High-Flow Cat
Apexi N-1 Catback Exhaust System (sounds like a damn civic in 4500 rpms+)
AEM Short Ram Intake
NGK R Spark Plugs
MSD 8.5mm Wires
MSD Mits Coil
RRE Replacment Vacumm Hose Kit (blue)

Suspension ...
Tsudo Coilover Kit
Intrax Camber Kit (front and back)
Tusdo Front Strut Bar

It has 190000 iles on it with a full rebuilt motor at 120000miles not sure if i want to keep spending money or find a 1999 Eclipse GS with under 100k miles on it and swap everthing i have on my talon to that. Not sure but i would like some ideas on what you think should be my next Performance Mod.

Thank-you
Tony :talon:

I would say convert it over to a turbo'd DSM, get like a 14B, intercooler, manifold, o2, internals, boost guage, MBC, air intake pipe for the turbo, 1G BOV an ECU from a turbo'd engine, wire harness, and anything else but I cant think of anything else at the moment. Keep the ESi badges on it so everyone thinks its mad slow:sneaky: Here are two links to people who did a n/t to turbo swap...in might help>> http://www.angelfire.com/il2/freestyle/turboconversion.html, and>>> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48231

Yeah see i want to turbo my car so bad, but with it haveing 190000 miles on it i dont know if i want to do that. i might buy a fully built motor from Crate Engines ($5500) and then but a nice turbo on it and ill have a nice 350+ hp ESI which would be nice ass hell ... ill probably end up doing that LOL

Well if your debating on getting a turbo, why not just get a 4g63 instead of putting money into a non turbo motor to make it turbo? I mean it may be cheaper in the long run?

i believe the intake??? camshaft is different on non-turbo dsm's. Correct me if i am wrong but you will need to get a different cam if you do decide to turbocharge it.

I wasnt sure of his budget or how far he wanted to mod it so you will need a turbo'd tranny, because the n/t are weaker then the turbo'd trans'. Also dont forget about fuel: fuel pump, injectors, AFPR. Also a way to tune it will be nessisary, and that will depend on turbo size, injector size, and where you want to end up with the car. Since you said 350hp, I would think you will be getting a bit larger then a 16G, and larger then 660s, so I would recommend DSMLink, with a logger for all your tuning needs:)

The reason being is becuase i want that sleeper look so when i a nice evo or something pulls up behide me and sees the ESI badge and when i hit the gas they will will not be able to keep up or ill stay with them. and alot of people do motor swaps on the esi's to a tsi motor or w/e i me i would rather spend that money and buy i fully built race NT motor and drop a nice turbo in it .... thats just me though.

He said he wants to go with a crate motor probably, and yes the intake is different. Tony the cheapest thing to do would probably just get a slightly modded GST or GSX, and put ESi or GS badges on it.

OK!! I have desided guy!! Im going to look for a 97 to 99 GSX (wreaked if possible but not to bad) for my next DSM ... thank you for the help but im just going to spend money and buy that and fix that up while i still have my talon and keep it for my "beater" car LOLROFL

The n/t race motors are very high performance. The types you see in Hondas and such are like this. In order to squeeze the most out of them, the companies who make the motors generally put high compression pistons in them. So a lot of all-motor Hondas you see have like 11:1 or 12:1 compression. Turbocharging this type of engine is a bad idea. For turbos, you'll need a compression somewhere around 8:1 or 8.5:1. So if you were to turbo the race motor, you'd just have to tear it down and put in different pistons anyway.

My point is, if you're going for all-motor performance, by all means drop in the crate motor. But because the 4G63T does not drop in easily to the 420A body that you have, if you want to turbo it, get a GST or GSX body. It'll be much less of a hassle. Trust me.

Well thank you for that tip. I did not know that. and yes i desided to go with a 97 to 99 GST or GSX. and just sale my talon esi for some quick cash. Hoppfully at least $2400

Why has everyone in this thread forgotten about the incompatibilities of the 420A and 4G63 platforms?

Those links posted earlier were about swapping a 4G63T into an N/T 4G63 body (i.e. 1G N/T).

The author of this thread clearly stated he has a 1996 ESi (i.e. 420A engine). Swapping a 4G63 engine into a 420A car is a bad idea.

We've already been through this many times on these forums... but for the last time: unless you have some sentimental attachment to the body of your 2G N/T, it is not worth it to do a 4G63 swap.

The engines are completely different, and you'll spend much more money doing this swap than it would cost to just buy a GS-T/GSX to begin with. So... either buy a GS-T/GSX or build up your 420A and turbo it. The 4G63 swap just doesn't make sense.

I know you already said you're going to buy a wrecked 2G turbo, but the above statements were included for posterity.

Yes i know about that. I was not going to do a 4g63 swap becuase it would just be pointless. And yes im going to eather find a wreaked 2g or find one with less than 100k miles on it. Thank-You

I know.

Thank god, intelligent responses, the misinformation was killing me reading this thread until I got down to Paul's post.

To the OP stick w/your new idea of getting a gst/x because I'm afraid of what will happen if you read some of these posts and try to turbo the esi.

Paul I gave those links just because they had a parts list of what was needed for the swap to go from n/t to turbo, sorry for not stating that. Thats the only reason I posted them, I didnt want to copy over the list of parts that would be needed, and have some one say I stole them off vfaq. But inlight of the fact that he will be buying a gs-t/gsx(much cheaper) it doesnt really matter.

hahaha! that is the funniest thing i've heard all day!

talonfreak96, the gst/gsx isnt a very "sleeper" look in my opinion. i also once thought about just selling my car and go that route, but i am much happier that i didnt. i am proud of what i've accomplished. i'd say do some research on what you could do with a turbo on a 420a before you decide...

Yeah i did reasearch. Well not alot becuase i kind of know that you have to build the 420a up to stand the boost you want to get out of the turbo. And i thought hey go find a used/wreaked GST/GSX and save a couple thousand bucks LOL. Im in maryland if anyone has a 97 to 99 GST or GSX PM me .... Surrouding states please .... or if anyone knows of one but im ready to buy! Thank- you all for your comments

OH and Paul when does my warning levels go down LOL :D

Im glad you jumped in, I was reading this forum in complete disbelief when I read someone suggesting a 4g63 swap for someone that said that have, " a little bit of money to spend on the car."

Btw, the 420a tranny can hold up just fine to boost.

It is probably a good idea to look into a gsx or gst. 420a turbo conversion take a lot of time and patience to get the power you are looking at (especially aiming for 350hp as you stated earlier). It is definately doable, but just takes time.

YUP! I had decided last night. Im going for the GST/GSX. Theres a ForSale sign in my window for $3000. That will give me some spending money for my Eclipse. Thanx Again :thumb:
