Installed by Shep in July of 2006 in my FWD 3G 4-cyl. All he said is that it was a "Quaife-type" LSD. Long story short, the sun gear on the driver side is messed up and is stripping axles. I need ideas on where to buy a new sun gear or where I can send it to have it serviced. Thanks in advance!

Rob, you can stop over and I can take a look at it. I would guess Wavetrac.

Thanks Tim. You free tomorrow? I was hoping to get this thing shipped out before I go on vacation Wednesday morning.

Here's some more information that one of the Galant guys was able to provide:

That is 100% not a WaveTrac LSD. Furthermore, Quaife, WaveTrac and Kaaz all make a LSD which requires the use of an OEM speedometer drive gear from a 2g. It must be pressed on to the LSD housing. With that being said, your LSD has the speedo drive gear machined into the outer housing, there is only one company who has ever done that, which is IPT Transmissions. As far as I know, their LSD was only made for a 2g FWD and that 2g diff spins opposite direction of ours, which means you would only have posi-lock in reverse unless it was somehow revised internally. I remember this because when Kaaz released their 3g LSD, it was a 2g LSD that they just flipped the clutch packs around the opposite direction so it would lock correctly for a 3g. Here is a link to a pic of the IPT LSD for a 2g, this is exactly what you have.

Shoot me a text later this afternoon.

As for the differential shown, it is worthwhile to call John at IPT and discuss your differential with them.

We deduced that this is a "Kar King" LSD; which means when it was torn down it was simply an OBX LSD. The cylindrical helical gears and pinion gears were totally trashed.

The internals were identical to OBX LSD's. Even better, the conical washers were not in the proper orientations.
