You need one if you are going to modify/tune your car. They can be had for under ~$100 in the classifieds, if you have DSM/ECMLink, you can view knock though.

You really don't need one. What are your plans/goals for your car ?
You will just need a method of tuning such as an safc or dsmlink and you'll be set. Everyone down here runs just 1 form of tuning device and the cars run perfectly fine when tuned correctly with someone who knows what they are doing.
No need in buying all sorts of stuff. Keep things simple.

Becouse i bought front mount intercooler and i am thinking to buy new turbo soon like 14b 16g but i readed that i need big injectors fuel pump but will need and safc and someone say that i will need and data logger

You can run stock boost on the 14b with your stock fuel system without any problems. If you are going to tune with an SAFC, its a good idea to have a logger, if you buy dsmlink (which is better), you wont need to buy a logger because link logs for you.

so i can run 14b will i feel some gain and can i run this with stock exhaust system . i got cat back and down pipe 3" but they are out now becouse its smell realy bad whith them and i trying to find out why
