Ok. I've heard that plenty of people run their WG off of the #1 runner and "its fine...that car makes xxx horsepower"
But I've also read, and heard that It really isnt good. Its doing something to that #1 cylinder that I cant really understand. Why is it so bad? Is it even SO bad? I want to get an External but I want to do it the right way. That being said, i dont have the mega bucks for a tubular that has it flanged off of the collector.
Help!?!?!?

For me personally it is not a matter of at what HP does something not work. It is a matter if doing things the correct way the first time. Again this is MY opinion.

The reason people say it is bad is becasue if you look at that setup when the gate opens you are making the exhaust go back against its normal direction of flow to make it out of the WG. Some will say they have never had any problems and this may be very true. Other will say that up to X amount of HP you will not have problems and this may be true as well. IMO I just look at it this way. It is not an optimal idea, even if it works well, and I would rather run something that doesn't have any possibkle down fallswhen other options are readily available.

I personally would run a WG mounted off the merge collector so it expells gases from all clyinders equally. You will also have to take into account cost, fitment, and longevity of parts when making a purchase.

Basically, if you don't want to spend a lot on a fancy manifold then a WG on the #1 clyinder will be fine for the most part. If you want to save up a bit more and have a it mounted on the merge collecter then wait and get a GOOD manifold with that option.

Hope that helps.

Since you're on the subject of WG, what about the internal gate dump o2 housings? Are there any gains to this besides the extra noise to scare others? Does it help with boost creep or help maintain steady boost?

The gains will be small and I am willing to bet you won't feel them.

They won't help boost creep problems becasue the problem lies in the WG "hole" in the exhaust housing itself. It is too small and can't get the exhaust out fast enough.

Okay, you just hijacked the living SHIT out of this guy's post. You need to do 2 things, read the forum rules and use the search button.

DSMs have been out for over 15+ years, do you think you're the first person to ask that question?

So anyways...i've heard of the 02 housing WG set up. You'd have to port the crap out of the wg hole yeah? How much we talkin here? I would assume you would try and make it the same size as the tial wg??? Like 38mm at least? Is that possible?
Thanks!

Sorry....I didnt mean to hijack. And yes I did a search to view others ideas/opinions. I asked the question in this thread because I was considering running the WG on the SBR manifold. But there are clearance issues on the Galants. So I wanted to ask about internal dump since the topic was about WGs.

its cool no worries here. I just wanted to know "why" it was bad...not just ###
nobody seems to really know..or i am missing it somewhere

It is going to depend on the housing as some will have more meat that others. If you decide to go that route then you are correct the bigger the hole the better, but don't weaken the housing. Along with that you will want to make the turn that the gases make to exit as smooth as possble as well, again using common sense and not ruining the housing.
