St. Louis,
I have a 90' FWD Turbo Laser and lately I've been experiencing a weird vibration that's felt through the steering wheel. In the last week I replaced the front two tires because the plies were broken on each of them. That alone was causing a vibration, and the two front struts were also replaced. After that work was done the car drove great.

Then I was on the highway and all of a sudden the wheel started jerking and vibrating with maybe a slight pull to the right. I pulled over because I thought I had a flat tire since the vibration started all of a sudden. Looked at the tires and everything was fine so I started driving again and the vibration was gone. Then two minutes latter it started again. So I started driving towards home and I noticed that the vibration seemed to start if I would let off the gas to decelerate. I could make it go away by giving the car a little bit of gas. I also pushed the clutch and it let it coast in neutral and the vibration would still happen. 95% of the time when I'm driving it doesn't vibrate, but at some weird instances it does. I have no idea what is causing it and I took it by a shop which said the power steering belt was loose and that could have caused it, but I had the tightened and it still happens everyonce in a while. It also occurs at any speed and the frequency of the vibration is related to speed.

Any ideas?

Get to an alignment shop slowly and gently. If the problem is related to acceleration or deceleration and occurs at any speed or RPM then the problem is most likely in the suspension or steering. A loose/failed component can cause the toe in to shift from negative to positive and back again under acceleration or corning forces.

Has the car felt like driving on ice while cornering? Or waving around under heavy breaking? Those are good signs of an alignment problem.
