wastegate control solinoid. what is it?

Like the subject states.... My wifes car is throwing a CEL that is defined as wastegate control solinoid, fail. Is this the same thing as the boost controller? I am thinking it is, but wanted to check first.

The BCS, or Boost Control Solenoid, or wg solenoid, is between the turbo outlet and wastegate actuator in a vacuum line. the ecu opens or closes the solenoid, controlling boost. when the solenoid is open, it bleeds air back into the intake by the air filter. when the ecu tells the solenoid to close, it directs the air (boost) to the wastegate actuator to control the boost level.

when you say boost controller, youre talking about an aftermarket valve that replaces the BCS, allowing you to control the boost yourself. so, in a way, the ecu and BCS together are like the "stock boost controller".
 
sorry guys... it is actually happening on my wifes 88 Chrysler LeBaron.... :coy: I was pretty sure that was it, so now I am going to try to just replace it with a cheap homemade MBC and see if that works. The car sounds like the WG is always open and the car has dramatic loss of power. Plus I need to put a boost gauge in it so I can see what the heck is going on.

I just needed to clarify that I actually knew what I thought I knew, and now that I know tha I knew it I will pester no more about a Non-DSM.

i don't think putting on a boost controller would drop the CEL. i could be wrong but the computer is still going to think there's something wrong with the solenoid.
 
good point since the MBC wont have the Ecu connection... Darn. Hmmm... Wonder if the factory one from my Laser would work? Might have to see if itis the same part number.
