Hey,

Just recently bought a 1990 Eclipse GST. Starting to do the basic mods.
But have noticed 2 things that annoy me and want to know what is the most likely cause and fix for them:

When cruising say over 40-60mph...they steering wheel starts to vibrate/shake. Whats the usual cause for this?

Second thing is that...im not sure if it just needs an alignment...but the steering wheel is actually turned a little bit to the left automatically for it to go straight.
Like if I drive down a straight road...take my hands off the wheel...the car goes straight...but the steering wheel is not centered...its turned slightly to the left.
If I turn it to the right to center the steering wheel...then the car starts drifting to the right.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

Let me know

Thanks!

Vibrations in the steering wheel may be related to motor mounts deteriorating.

As for the wheel, I had the same problem. I had to pull the steering wheel off and then put it on. Now, the car rides straight and so is my steering wheel.

Hope this helps.

same thing JUST happened to me. I took the wheel off and it was like crazy lop-sided. put on your spare and see it stops shaking and if the steering wheel sits straight. with the wheel off roll it around and see if its got a lump in it. I just ordered some new tires today and im going to get an alignment too. ill let you know how it goes.

Thanks for the info and tips...I'm gonna try that out and see what happens!

Thanks

if you feel a vibration at the steering wheel at those speeds its because
your wheels arent balanced correctly or they are bent
now for the steering wheel being off an alingment would fix it :thumb:

ok man this is the deal, get ur tires balanced at a local tire shop. to get rid of the vibration, if it still vibrates then bring it back to them and have them jack ur car up on the lift, have them check the tread on the tires for defects, i have seen at my job treads all uneven and causing vibrations.. as for the steering you need a aligment to fix that. :thumb:
