Valve Job - Help

i have a 97 eclipse rs with 97k on original motor. it burns oil pretty bad. im thinking it needs a new valve job. i've never done a valve job before. so basically i want to know what all will i need to do a valve job. gaskets, tools and all that. and if somebody have a tutorial or a video i'd greatly appreciate it.

You should find out exactly why it's burning oil.

When does it smoke? Only on start up, or all the time?

You could do a leak down test.

First, you have to figure it out, where is that oil coming from..
If it is burning oil at the start up and not much when running, then it could be just the valve steam seals, which they can be replaced with out taking off the head.

Check your spark plugs to see if there is oil on the plugs,,,

It burns all the time.

Is it burning at idle? And clears up as you give it throttle? . If so it your valve stem seals. If its constantly burning oil then id do a compression and leakdown test to see if your ring are in good shape or not.

The only thing with the valves that will cause it to burn oil is if the seals are bad. Just leaky valves will not cause it to burn oil.
