Valve cover gaskets

So I dont see how there can be a difference but a shop told me there is a difference between the valve cover gasket kits for a 89-92 and a 93-99 4G63. True or not?

I believe there might be a slight difference in the heads and that may require a different gasket. I just looked it up and there are 2 different part numbers for the 89-92 and 93-99. I would just get the one you need.

Slowboy does know, you can either select the 1g 6 Bolt, the 1g 7 Bolt or the 2g 7 Bolt. The 1g did get a 7 Bolt starting sometime with the 1993 Model and the 7 Bolt continued to go into the 2gs. The difference in the valve cover gasket between the 6 Bolt and 7 Bolt.... I have no idea.

could it have something to do with the cam angle sensors being different?

all the major online stores (dsmparts, slowboy, dsmotorsports) have one gasket set, dsmparts even says "fits all turbo 90-99 eclipse talon vr4"

edit: although looking closer, dsmparts has the peices seperately and even though they all say "fits all..." the spark plugs gaskets have you choose between 90-92.5 and 92.5-99

I have actually had both sitting side by side and there is no real apparent difference. But if the stores You are looking at have them for the different years I would go with the part specific for Your year of car.
