Chilliwack,
im looking at a bomex full body kit for my 97 talon tsi awd i just picked up. i live in canada and am wondering if there is a manufacturer in canada that deals with bomex kit. the bomex kit im pretty sure comes in urethane and fiberglass. a fiberglass one will sell on ebay for like $200US...pretty cheap. how much would a urethane kit cost? i've looked at other threads and can't find much on it. thanks

WTF **hands over a kevlar vest** be ready for the bullets. And for your question a urathane kit is lighter and more flexible as you know and they usualy run lower then the fiberglass kits from my knowledge.

Don't know what he's talking about, but a urethane kit will run a LOT HIGHER than the fiberglass kits. Usually, you can get a full fiberglass kit for the same price as a single front urethane bumper of the same kit. I would say that you are looking at about $600

It isnt that much lighter, but urethane is 10x stronger. Urethane bends too, while fiberglass shatters. Case in point, my car recently got towed and it is dropped 2". When the tow truck was getting my car on, my bumper BENT to about 1/2 its height (the bottom lip was about 8" off the ground) and once it leveled out, the bumper sat perfectly fine. I know if I had fiberglass or w/e the factory uses, I would probably have to replace/fix the front bumper after that. I will never use anything other then urethane. Sure it may cost more, but its easier to use, more flexible, and stronger. And its not like its that much more expensive... only extra 200-300 for a whole kit in urethane.

so it seems the urethane kit is the way to go for a few extra hundred bucks. where you guys finding this kit for sale other than bomexaero.com. $1200 is a bit different then $200. anything available in canada?

Look for a Bomex authorized dealer on the internet if there's not one near you. That $200 ebay kit was just the Bomex style. It depends if you just want the look or if you want the testing and development that Bomex puts into its kits that actually make them aerodynamic(I dont know how much, maybe just a little). If you buy that ebay kit it'll probably be harder to fit.

there are only a few urethane fronts out there. the blitz and 1 maybe 2 others. but i have not seen a real bomex kit in urethane. the rest are fiberglass which i would not advise for a daily driver. as stated, fiberglass does not bend, it shatters and cracks. i have not seen a fg front that does not eventually crack or break if diven on the streets regularly. my .02

even the kit on ebay will work. no its not an actual bomex, but i want the same looking kit. and in urethane. but its seeming to be hard to find outside of bomex itself.

fiberglass isn't too hard to work with though it makes better for molding a body kit it thats for sure.

also if you do mold it in while your fitting make sure you brace it extremely well otherwise it may move or flex when you shut your door or something jerks it and then it will break apart and ruin your sweet new paint.

Nobody considered one big word in his question, BOMEX. Bomex kit only come in fiberglass. And fiberglass Is also much easier to fix. Trust me I had a Urethan bumper that cracked, and was near impossible to fix. I later got the same kit in Fiberglass and broke it 3 time and fixed it three times. Looked like new when I sold the car. I suggest fiberglass.

Fiberglass is great its generaly easier to repair and alot cheaper than urethane but remember you get what you pay for! EBAY body kits are scrapbin material to most manufacturers the fitment is generally very poor and the money you thought you had saved is spent on body work to get the thing to fit right and even worse sometimes its like a fat girl trying to get into a tube top it just isnt going to happen....:dsm:
