Unplugged TCU...different kind of question

To keep this simple, will a 1991 Laser 2.0 automatic car move without a TCU installed? I know it won't shift correctly, but will it move at all? Thanks for any info.

No, because the valve body shift solenoids won't engage without something telling them too. Essentially, there will be nothing to activate the solenoids so the car will not go in gear. You CAN however unplug you TCU and wire up toggle switches to the solenoids and shift with the switches, but that's a whole other story.

It will move but i don't recommend it. I'm no expert by any means but with the experience i've had with mine and the toggle switches i know that it will move but your not feeding the proper clutches fluid when it's needed so you could burn em up. If someone can give a little better explanation feel free.

All I need is for it to go front and back and Ill be happy. It needs to last 15 to 20 minutes at most. Shifting from reverse to forward while still moving in the opposite direction will probably destroy the trans long before the TCU not being plugged in does.

I know this post is old, but the info might help others..A car with a bad tcu goes into limp mode..That means it go into reverse and 3rd gear..A car with NO tcu plugged in at all goes into limp mode also..I found this out while I was switching tcu's back and forth.. I forgot to plug in my tcu one time.....I've drove home 20 minutes or more in limp mode a couple of times from a hacked harness acting up.....

When you say hacked harness where were the trouble spots? I think I might have some wiring issues and I was just wondering where to start.
