So its Sunday and I'm bored and thinking..... How could I squeeze 3.0 out of a 2.4 block? I figure if I bore the block 60 over and get a custom CNC crank would I be able to run this in the block with little modification to the block to clear the rods. I don't want a high reving motor or something extreme. Would be for the street maybe running a GT30R, 35R series turbo. Basiclly the ultimate TQ monster sleeper. Is this to much of a dream?

I would be questioning how much cylinder wall there would be left after .060 over. I know people have done it, but just something to think about

Yea that is something to consider I have to look at the manual for max overbore. Just would like to go for max displacement. Would be happy even with 2.8.

Doesn't seem very cost effective though considering the cost of a custom crank as well as the custom pistons and rods you'd need to buy. Not to mention you'll have to do a lot of clearancing with the block. The 2.4 is plenty torque'y' and if you want more torque then buy an ls1.

Well not really concerned with cost, figure crank will run me anywhere from $800-1000 and pistons 4-500 for the set. My real cost would be paying someone for the R&D of the math. I just might be able to get away with .060 over 64 pistons.
I don't think its all that unobtainable since they've been doing it for years with Chevy and ford motors for years.

An OTS forged crank and you're looking at that much after balancing. The only custom cranks they make are billet, and last time I checked Sunny Bryant, Molodex, Scat, ETC all charge in the neighbourhood of 2400-4000 dollars for a custom crank, depending on stroke and what type of balance.

I would say drive a 2.4 car with a similar sized turbo and see if that is ok for you. This project WILL cost more then it is worth. Everyone says that price isnt a problem when it comes to threads like these, but that is always a problem. Like somone has said, a fully custom crank will cost more than a fully built 2.4 from Magnus. Do you really want to throw away money just to make a bit more torue at a bit lower RPM. To me it doesnt make sense.

I am a big fan of torque monsters, thats why I will be putting a 500 cid Cadillac motor in my old 3/4 ton truck, but the parts are just going to be expensive. If they were already available I would say go for it, but the custom stuff puts big dents in wallets real quick.

Build up a 2.4 and put a nice turbo on it and give it a shot. I have a feeling you will be very happy. I have yet to hear of anyone not liking the diveabilty of a stroker on the street.

Back in early 2003, Mark from Powderblastco spoke of 2.5 and 2.7 shortblocks he was building. I don't know of anything ever became of it and last I heard, Powerblastco was out of business.

if you want maximum displacement you can swap in a 4g64 bottom end. 2.4 is plenty of displacement for these cars. Amazingly enough the fastest ones ( from what I see ) are all running the 2.0.

Yes, I would say, just build the crap out of a 2.0 or do a 2.3, a properly built and tuned car is very very fast for the streets, plenty to get in trouble with....

Its a Shepherd Tranny so it says "Hey were the F**K is all this power you promised me?, you could have bought another car for the price of me toolbag."

Or just to be different go the other way! destroke it and rev to 17000 rpm, get some sort of valve spring and valve train from NASA development wholesale warehouse! or a pnuematic set up off a formula one team. then pass someone on the freeway doing 60mph while just getting out of first gear! would sound good!
I think a 2.4/ hybrid all the good internals a HX35 and some really good tuning you will still leave a trail of tyre marks for people to see where you have been!

Your car would LoVe roll-ons, might need to talk to some F1 buddies about a tranny, i dont know if even shep has something for ya there! hahahaha

Here's my idea...
.060" overbore
2.3L stroker pistons (with wrist pins moved up 6mm...)
standard sized rods
112mm crank
4g64 block

You'd have a bore of 86.5mm and a stroke of 112mm giving you a displacement of 2.631L


I honestly don't know why you'd want to go any bigger than that. My 2.3L rocks and I see no point in going bigger. My 60-1 spools 21 psi right at 3500rpm, and that's with only 60-80psi compression in my cylinders... (damn cracked head...)
