OK guys, I went around to different stores getting prices on how much it will cost to remove my non-turbo wing, and replace it with my GSX turbo one on my 98 Eclipse RS. So far, the shops have been pretty high...they're saying since they will have to patch 10 holes in the back, just that body work will cost several hundreds of dollars!! NOT including taking my non-turbo wing off (i STILL can't figure out how to get access to these others bolts....see here for more info on that). All in all, one shop quoted about 600-800 dollars for the whole job. That sounds a little insane for just filling holes and installing//painting a wing.

Is there an easier way to take this wing off and fill these holes myself? I know a family friend who has a welder , and he's pretty experienced with cars (if that helps) Any//ALL help is needed, as I wish to have my summer list completed by August 1st.

Thanks!

Adam

That's actually a reasonable price for that work, but it may not seem that way to you. Remember, even at $60 an hour in labor costs...they'll charge around 1-2 hours for removing the wing. 6-8 hours of labor just for the grinding and welding. 1-3 for the filler work over the new welds. 3-4 hours paint prep and spraying. Plus cost of materials. That's around eleven hours on the low end. Depending on the shop, they may charge you the most hours they can get away with. But don't forget, the labor hours don't equal the time it actually takes to do the work.

This price seems a little steep to me but not too much, although filling wholes is a pain. I worked at a body shop for awhile and changing wings isn't uncommon. I would shop around I got my whole body kit molded and whole car (90 celica) repainted for 2gs so almost 600-800 just for a wing you might be getting owned. It always helps to shop around. If you have a mechanic you always go to ask him if he has a body shop buddy a lot of times they do and if you get referred they may drop the price. If you want to do some work for yourself filling the wholes isn't that difficult of a task if you have the patience and will lower the price a lot if you do all the prep work and all you need is to get it painted. Shop around

Agreed, remove the wing and prep the area before bringing it to the shop. Prep the new wing as well. The cheapest way to get anything done at a body shop is to do some of the work yourself. See if you can find a buddy willing to do the work too, for example I am getting a 2GB talon bumper painted + logo filled for 200bucks...Look around.

That's not really out of line at all. They have to fill, like you said, 10 holes... one of which is like a one inch diameter hole. I think I paid around $700 to have my low 1995 turbo spoiler switched to the higher turbo spoiler of the later 2gs. I know more about body work now and have more friends in the industry so I wouldn't pay that now but if you don't know anything and cannot do any of the work yourself that price is about right.

If you don't want to pay that much I'd suggest doing some of it yourself or finding someone who could help you do some of the work yourself.

if you really don't wanna pay all that much for it just by the rear hatch outta a junk jard with a turbo spoiler. I helped out a friend found one after about 3 weeks of searching. we just picked it up for around 150 or so with glass and everything then. painted it and put it on and I got to keep his old one, just in case I needed it for something. so he paid around 350-400 for the hatch and wing plus getting it painted. easiest and cheapest way.
