I have a mad vibration when taking off from a standstill. 1st gear, 2nd gear or reverse does it. As soon as I get moving (5km/hr) it goes away and drives smooth as butter. I changed Ujoints due to wear and play, but no change. Checked all the mounts, and they all seem fine. I went to my friend's shop to see what he thought. We putthe car in the air and left off/on the clutch to make this happen. With a stethiscope we pinpointed the tranny making a "growling noise" similar to a bearing noise. I pulled the end cover off the tranny to check the coupling and 5th gear syncro. It all seemed fine. Filled back up with gear oil (80/90), and now it doesnt do it as bad.
Another thing I noticed was sitting at a light on a slight hill, with it in 1st, it doesnt roll. the car seems like it is stuck in gear? It might roll back 2 inches then kinda bounce to a standstill.
Ive been reading lots of forums and havent come across anything like this before. Transmissions are hard to find for this car up here in Canada, so any help would be great! Could I get a rebuild kit that would fix the problem?
Thanks to the maker of this site! Its helped me out sooooo much so far!

is the mount bad? I had this issue with my galant (same mounting points as a 2g) and i shifted the motor mount too far when i installed it and it was rubbing where it mounted on the chassis. It was very strange but that 1/8'' made a HUGE difference.

If you changed the clutch without filling trans fluid back up you probably were running on too low of a level. Also if adding gear oil lessened the problem then you probably have internal trans damaged or chipped teeth on the lower gears.

I had drained and filled all the fluids (trans, Tcase and Diff) to the correct level. the problem is less consistant now. Somedays it wont vibrate at all, other days it vibs everytime I take off. Ive tried to narrow it down to a gear, but when it happens it will happen in any gear that I start off from.
I bought a used trans for parts. Once I have it I will drop this one and gut it to see what actually happened.

If its like a chattering noise when you're idling and you start to let out the clutch, then your pressure plate is probabaly warped...or your flywheel is burnt to shit. Another thing it could be is you have a stripped or broken Bellhousing to Block bolt. Check it out

It does sound like clutch chatter but if fluids helped it then it could be that the bearings for the input shaft are worn out and causing it to wobble a bit under load.

Do you hear any whining noise while just driving?

Try getting some Lube Guard for gear oil at a local napa its in the yellow bottle. If it is the bearing this will help a little so you can rule the clutch out but if id doesn't change a thing you will probably have to tear the tranny out and check the clutch for broken springs or burnt flywheel.

It doesnt happen when cruising. Hard or soft throttle. Only when starting to move from a stop. AND not all the time :S It comes and goes. Doesnt seem to depend on heat.. If it was clutch chatter wouldnt it still do it between gears? Driving is smoooooth (now that I changed my Ujoints ;) )
When I changed my clutch a couple months ago, the flywheel looked decent..
I got a used trans for it, just need the time to take it apart to check it out, and put it in if its good. I think my trans is just destroyed. :( It was an abused car before I got my mits on it :p
Thanks for the ideas guy!
