Well, it's about time I got myself a restalled torque converter from IPT transmission. What I plan on doing is, buying a torque converter from somebody, sending it into IPT as the core, and then having them re-stall the extra one that I bought. That way, I can still drive my car for the week or so that the torque converter is being restalled. Also, I could have the converter put on in one day, so I don't have the car sitting a shop all week. Does this sound like a good idea? Or should I just use my stock converter and send that one in and have the car be down?

Another thing, ( I would ask IPT but I need to know right now and they are closed) Would IPT take a core from a GST if I need my re- stall done for a GSX one? Or are they the same?

95-99 GST and GSX torque converters are the same.

i did the EXACT same thing when i swapped out my TC. all the work was done in a day, instead of having to push it out off the lift, and wait for IPT to restall, and shipping, etc.

anyways, i have a MINT 1999 converter with only 45k. was used when my car was stock. always used mitsu diamond atf, no slippage, no problems. i have no need for my stock one. i hope you will do the same once your re-stalled

IPT works on core exchange. In other words, you buy the converter, they ship out one with your specs from their stock. After you get the TC and install it, you then send yours back and they refund you the core charge.

In other words..... there is no downtime if it works as advertised.

las time i spoke w/ john from ipt, he had no core to exchange, so my only option was to send him mine. he may have them in stock now, but you also gotta' be concerned w/ the condition of the one he's sending you. not saying it junk, but i wouldnt want a 200,000 mile TC on my car.
