I looked over the 2g eclipse PDF file, but I was wondering if anyone had any specific tricks short of complete disassembly to get the sunroof guides to align.

One of the rails is about an inch in front of the other, so that the roof never completely closes or opens all the way because one of the rails hits at one end or the other. (It looks like the travel is cutting short at the closing since it sounds like the control unit is stopping due to tensions from the leading guide fully seating).

Thanks,
-Joe

Yes, i have already removed the glass. It seems that both the of the cables are simultaneously threaded through the motor. (They have somehow gotten uneven so that the guides are different distances from the motor).

I am going to try detaching the rails and see if i can get any play in the cable (hopefully without stripping out the motor)

I'll report if i find any adjustments for this specific problem.

Ok for the past 3 weeks now I have been having this problem with my sunroof. It will go back and forth fine no problems, but when it gets about 4/5 closed it will stop and back up about 2-3 inches and keep doing this whenever I try to close it. It will not seem to work hard right, or be jamming before this just all of a sudden stops and back up as if I did it with the control. About a week and a half ago I took the sun roof glass off to see if there was anything in there (dirt, leafs, etc...) but looked to be fine, and was greased up well and all. After a little time messing with it worked, I am not sure what I did if I moved something or anything; but it worked closed and opened just as good as it ever did. So I put the glass back on and it was good. Until about 2 days later, I went to open my sunroof again (rain had stopped) and the problem came right back. It is suppose to rain sometime tonight into tomorrow, so if anybody can help me out or has had the same problem I would really appreciate the help!

Just incase anybody says something; I have searched for this on this forum and on the web. I have not been able to find anything that matches my problem.

Thanks
Chris

I have the same problem with mine. I think it has a rain sensor though and starts to magically work fine, because every time that it is going to rain it works perfect. Try to look for a good deal on a used one. Someone here has to be parting out a 2G.

I have a similar problem. I was changing out my cigarette lighter. I get a charge but the piece wont work. I put it all back together and now the sunroof wont work. Thank god I found the hex gear so I could put it back down. It doesnt even move. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you blew a fuse somewhere when you were messing with the cig lighter. I would start by checking them all.

I had a similar problem with my GST, except all of my fuses were fine and the hex didn't work. It had somehow just gotten stuck, maybe got something lodged in the motor. I had to end up replacing it with a sunroof unit from a junkyard. Sounds like you won't be needing anything that drastic since your hex key works.

I had one fuse blown when all was said and done. I done have a cover for the box so I dont know what was blown. So I changed the rest for the expensive light fuses and still nothing. I also found what looks like a ground going into a fuse which was blown but the wire was lodged into the fuse I guess making a connection. I changed that out and did the same as it was and nothing.

When I open the sunroof there is a clicking noise coming from the right slider. It click when opening and when its all the way open it'll make a clicking noise. I think this is to do to it trying to line up. I took off the suroof class and teh right (passenger side) slider reaches the end before the other side and just makes a clicking noise until the other finishes. Is there a fix to this?

Thanks,

Well I don't think they are moving at the same speed so once the onside finishes it makes a ticking noise until the other does.So when it's oing forward and backward it not even until one side finishes and starts making a ticking noise till the other finishes. It's like the motors aren't synchonized or the one is going faster than the other. I had the window off and watched them and they both started at the same time it's just that the passenger side one went faster.

Anyway to slow it down or speed the other up maybe?

Thanks,

There is only one motor. I had sunroof problems with my 95 for a while, and I ended up buying a couple and neither worked, so I took all 3 apart and built one good one, and then I didn't have any more problems with it. I would just say that its probably gotten off track, so my solution would be to take the headliner off so you can see the motor, and take the motor completely out. Its not hard, just 3 8mm bolts, then you have to kinda pop it out. But once the motor is out, you can just push the arms around freely, and I would push and pull them around and clean them, grease them, just make sure there isn't anything in the track causing it to slow. When you are satisfied that everything is as clean as you can get it, push both arms as far forward as you can, then put the motor back in, and see what happens.

This may sound pretty dire, but here goes: I've gone around in circles with the sunroof in my 2g for 3 years, and it still does not work (I have a '96 TSI AWD).
My issues started with the same clicking/uneven travel you are experiencing and progressed to the sunroof not operating at all. I have replaced the cables, still available from the Mitsu dealer, and that worked for a while, but in hindsight, I believe it had more to do with disassembling the drive unit rather than with installing the new cables. I have also replaced the entire sunroof assembly...twice.
However, in the process of doing this, I discovered what I feel is the best way to check the operation of the unit, and to get the best look at the sliders and cables as they move back and forth. What you need to do is remove the entire sunroof unit in one piece and operate the sunroof while it's outside the car. Getting it out also relieves you from having to hold your arms in the air for hours while you fool around with it.
To do this, pull the head liner and you'll see there are a handful (I think 6) of bolts that hold the unit in place, and you'll also see the power supply cable (among other things). Disconnect the cable, carefully remove the bolts so that the sunroof doesn't fall on your head, and remove it from the car in one piece. Next, pull the power supply loose from a couple of the clips that hold it in place, enough that you can pull the clip/cable out through the sunroof hole with as much extra length as possible. Now, get a thick blanket or a couple of towels and place them on the roof of the car, over the big hole you now have in the roof...leave the cable you just pulled out accessible.
Gently rest the sunroof unit on top of the car, on the blanket, oriented the same way it was when installed in the car. Plug in the cable, and voila, you can operate the unit and see everything going on. This also gives you immediate access to the track, cables, etc. Keep in mind that as the glass slides back, the unit will tip backwards, so keep a hand on the front edge of the frame. I know it probably sounds like a pain to do all of this, but I can do everything described above in less than 10 minutes...though I have done it now about a dozen times.
The issues with mine seem to be electronic in nature. I've checked the motor, and it has no broken gears/missing teeth. the motor operates in forward and reverse perfectly well, and I even tested it out of the unit, with a loose cable in hand, pulling on the cable in the opposite direction in an attempt to get it to stall. It didn't. The black box, which I'm guessing is a relay of some sort (?), is the only thing I have not tried getting in to...and I'm not sure I could do anything with it if I did get in it. I'm stumped. I am currently considering getting back inside the motor and trying to convert it to a hand-crank operation...I'll let you know if I can get that going...I know old Jettas/Rabbits had hand-crank roofs, so I thought I could maybe scavenge some parts from one of those.
As stated above, my sunroof no longer operates at all. I have replaced it with 2 complete units out of donor cars; swapped motors, black boxes, switches; rebuilt motors and replaced cables to no avail. I even spoke to the previous owner, and he had the whole unit replaced about 3 years into owning the car. So, I wish I could tell you what to do to fix it, but I hope the info above will help you at least better diagnose what is going on with yours. And if you DO figure it out, please post your fix or PM me with any ideas you may have...I'd love to hear them!

I had to take my sunroof apart to figure out why it would not close. I found that my driverside sunroof cable had rusted and snapped. I decited to take the sunroof out, disassemble and clean the componets (which were filthy) and put it back in. It took a bit of finagling to get the roof shut properly with only the passenger side cable but it was done.

Insted of only replacing the broken driver side cable I've decited to replace both cables.

Driverside # MR287457; $21
Passenger # MR287458; $20.78

I have CAP's, DMS cd, and PDF sunroof guide, but had couldn't see how these cables are installed into the motor.. Has anyone accomplished this, or know the proper procedure. I'll be taking the sunroof assembly back out of my DSM for ease of installation.

Thanks...

I'll look agian.... I'm hopeing somone who as done this before can step up and fill me in on the blanks. The sunroof guide explains the steps, but with limited detail. Beeing that the cable is allready snapped, I'm not to sure how to get the cable out of the motor, and re-installed...
