hello everyone,
I would like to make a little note here before i start this thread, bodykit haters please let it be, would love opinions/ideas/creativity as the body kit is being installed. I do not plan on keeping it stock thats the reason i bought a body kit. Creativity/IDEAS/Opinions are welcome.

Okay here is how i start off, my car is 1996 Spyder GS. Having the cursed engine and everything, I do not plan on getting anything to get my car to go faster so I have decided to go with looks. Besides I have two speeding tickets on my record, no speed wanted.

====SKIP ABOVE IF YOU WANT TO GET STRAIGHT TO THE POINT====

Getting a street fighter front , Blitz Side and REAR. Changing color from RED to Yellow. I think yellow would look nice with the black top and few graphics/vinyls later on.
I am planning on keeping the side mirrors and door handles black too. I am taking the MITSUBISHI and GS sticker off from the rear end. I have stock tail lights and black housing headlights 2gA. My bumper is 2gB. You cant really tell unless you look closely. They fit pretty tight. I will be getting projector soon. (please dont tell me to get them first and then get all this done). Okay here is where you ppl might think that things get ricey ,

1. as thinking maybe a black painted hood would look nice, I cant afford carbon fiber hood at this time. WAY TO EXPENSIVE. need your opinions on that.

2. what do you think about keeping the side mirrors and door handles black. I think they would go with the black top.

3.Taillights? they arent too expensive to i might give them a shot . I was thinking maybe carbon fiber ones.

4.The reverse lights: I saw a thread on here, a person wanted to put headlight bulbs in the reverse lights, do you think thats a good option? have any of you done anything else with reverse lights . I would like to do something different before I go purchase the reverse lights for a 97-99.

5. The little vents for the blitz side skirts, should i put a little piece of mesh grill in there or what? it being hallow might not look too good. Also the front end, I am planning to putting some mesh grill up there since i dont have an intercooler. Is there anything else besides mesh grill that would look nice?

give me any more suggestions / ideas or if you could come up with something creative
thanks.

I am putting two pictures below that i took a few hours ago when i went down the bodyshop to see how things are going. I will keep you guys updated with pictures.

nice choice in bodykit... i have the same exact setup. Changing the front though. Have you considered shaving anything? such as the door handles, reverse lights, things like that??

i think the door handles should be shaved, or at least painted. The mirrors, i can agree with leaving. I think the door handles unpainted will not look good.
You shoudl consider shaving the spoiler completely. The spyder rear end looks cleaner without the spoiler, just the short flat trunklid.

The blitz sides that you have, as you guessed, should have mesh in the side vents. Also, painting black inside the vent gives it a more standout appearance. Also, either mold your sides, or shave the door line, becuase leaving them all, the result is a mess of horizontal lines, none of which line up.

I honestly like the color red on the car. If you dont keep it, go with a yellow with redish tint to it... nothing neonish or pale, neither colors work very well on DSM's.

For the taillights, you could have the OEM centerpiece letters cleared, which would go nice with your shaved badges. I honestly dont know what else to do with them. They are great looking from the factory, but my rear bumper and taillight section was a mess when i got the car so i just converted the tail lights. painting the centerpiece is always nice, assuming your third brake light is shaved. Without shaving the third brake light, it looks strange.

Talk to the manager of your bodyshop. Since youre spending the money on a kit, and paint, a hood would be nice, and can probably be had for $380 shipped. Depending on how you work things, it might be in your budget, if you save the red paint.

Dont take any shortcuts. I spent months prepping and shaving, then paid 3000 for the final paint and prep work, and custom stuff, just to get the car back and decide it wasnt enough. If you want something shaved, or modified, do it while you have the chance. its alot harder (and pain in the ass) to go back and do it over again. Good luck... :thumb:

Got a couple pics. Nothing great, cars not assembled since its going back into the bodyshop this weekend. I dont really want to show the car or anything on the forums until its done. PM me if still interested.

Sesky, have you made any decisions yet??? Who's doing your bodywork, and how do they charge??? you might be able to get them to do a few extra things, to personalize your car and kit :thumb:

stock rims definately need to go.

SpYYder, i gotta hook up with a buddy whose doing the body work so you know its pretty cool and not to expensive. what kind of things are you talking about to personalize my car?

i saw an eclipse the other day . had huge letters on the rear window " J U S T I N "
i hope thats not the kind of personalizin stuff your talkin about ;) haha jk

I would definitely not paint the hood black and the rest of the car another color, IMO that would look like you got in a wreck and just replaced the hood. If you really want to do this I'll sell you my stock black hood, just needs to be buffed out a little (some minor scratches, and they will be buffing your car if you get a paint job anyways)

Paint the door handles, or it will look like you put a painted kit on an RS. The painted door handles just look so much better.

Same thing with the mirrors as above.

Just my .02

Well, as far as personalizing, i have done a few things. I added mesh to the side vents, went with a two color scheme on the door jambs and under trunk, i shaved all the welds and lines underneath the trunklid and door jambs, currently working on relocating the gas filler to the passenger door jamb. I also did things like paint the wiper cowl the lexus black and taillight conversion, idk, workin on reversing the hood (if my TRD supra hood ever shows up), hey do anything that shows your own style.
Blend in MR-2 vents high on the fender, add a scoop to your hood, add or remove material to the kit openings. change the spoiler, relocate the antenna and get an S2000 style antenna, do anything you want. Get crazy paint you probably shoudn't afford, It's your car and you need to do something to set it apart from the other thousands of eclipes with bodykits. youre in a great situation because youre getting a hookup on bodywork. Talk to your friend at the shop and see what type of ideas he has, if he's interested, and tell him to go crazy and when youre done, make sure you throw him extra cash even if he doesn't want it. Its a good time to do whatever the hell you want if youre planning on changing the color.
I got a great hookup and if there is one sticker on my entire car, (windows not paint of course :D ) it will be for advertising his shop. even though he's only charging me for paint, since i bring him all the materials and parts needed, im throwing him and the other guy about $500 each for all of their long hours and weekends spent making my car beautiful, plus i stop by with beer and lunch every day. My jaw drops everytime i see my own car, whatever stage of the build its in, and thats a great feeling...
so basically just talk it over with your friend, see what ideas he might have. either way its sure to turn out great.
i love spyders done up nice.. :thumb:

Paint the mirrors and handles to match. When you get projectors get the inside of them painted the same color as the car. I just did this and changed out the LED's to blue and my car looks so much better. (Kind of makes it look like an 05' Vette) Also my nest project is painting some altezza's that I will be getting, I am just going to paint the chrome part the same as the car I think it will make it look much cleaner. Yes you will need some wheels and a hood but you can get both for about 1000-1200 if you check Ebay and some decent wheel sites.

suggestions much appreciated. I like the idea of painting the insides of the headlights . if youv done it can you post some pictureS? i think i just read a thread about it , i will look into it. I got rid of the lil line thing on the doors cos it DOES not go with the blitz side.

i was also thinking if i should mold on the rear bumper. like get rid of the lines between the bumper and the body. you know what i mean? make it seem like its just all joined up.
iv seen a couple of cars like that , i kinda liked it.

you definitely want to mold the sideskirts, if anything.. i wouldnt reccomend doing the front, its a bad idea. The rear, well, secure it well... use epoxy and rivets first, test the fit by shaking it, hard, its going to take alot of beating on the road (catching wind on the highway) and you dont want it to crack. then fiberglass and body filler...

paint the mirrors and door handles, you'll regret it later when everyone thinks you have an RS, plus it will look bad IMO. The flow just wont look right.

DEF MOLD THE SIDESKIRTS and do the mesh + painting black behind that area to make it look something like a functional vent.

I would DEF NOT mold on the front or rear bumper, that would really suck if you got hit or wanted to change them out... man that would suck.

I would also shave the spoiler for sure, wingless spyders look PIMP, plus shave off that antenna while you are at it.

It might be cool to also add some mesh in the bottom little vents on the front and rear bumpers to give them some added spunk.

Painting your projectors whenever you get them would also be VERY cool.

If you are still doing the yellow paint I think you should paint it the IS300 yellow, that'd look pimp...with some gunmetal wheels w/wo a polished lip. Just my opinion...

Most of this is just a recap of the last dozen threads, I think there were a lot of good ideas/suggestions.

Oh ya, one more thing...

DROP THAT BIATCH!

Skip the hood and get a decent suspension...hell you could get the tokico blues spring/strut kit for the same price of the hood, if not less on EBay, and that isnt that half bad, just dont be retarded and get the $90 ebay coilovers please...theres a reason they are that cheap

you could get some nice shocks and ground control coilovers for probably 450 shipped. Apex'i WS damper setups are on ebay once in awhile for $550.

Agent11 had some good ideas... he basically described my car, shaved wing, antenna, mesh in the vents, etc.

any plans for the engine? interior? wheels?

here is some pictures of my headlights that I just got painted. I got the blue LED's put in cause the other ones went out. I think the headlights came out very well and with a brighter color like yellow they will stand out even better among Honda's and there JDM black projectors.

Yes you need to shave the spoiler and maybe find a carbon fiber rear trunk lip spoiler so it will match your carbon fiber hood and black top.

got the car back today, its not completely done yet. I still need to do stuff to it. just posting some pictures of how it looks. I LOVE IT!!
mesh grill and reverse lights are on the way. Next is gonna be rims/tires plus lowering and wing.. MORE TO come. for now please no negative comments im too excited : :D

I usually hate body kits and yellow cars but it look nice man. I think it's because it's a convertible. The black top breaks up the color nicely.

looks alright, DEF needs lowered and rims. i HATE cars with ktis and no rims - much like my car is now cause of winter  i hate that look. but other then those few thigns, if u have the cash get a CF truck lid made or buy one if someone mass produces them?? i dont think so but maybe, cf hood, and then your car will look 100x better. but for now, it looks good.

I think you should lower the car, and get some GSX 17" wheels and paint the centers black. Won't be too expensive, leaves you room in your budget for a suspension drop too. Get your carbon fiber hood, and it will look awesome.

Glad to see you molded the sides. Looks 100% better than non-molded with the door line. Too many busy lines on a clean sideskirt. Glad to see you left the mirrors black too. The black convertible top, mirrors, headlights and the yellow look good... get a CF hood! and maybe the CF wangan wing.. im a big fan of that wing, it would be nice. CF center piece for the tails maybe.

Paint looks good. Did you get a good deal? what is the color name?

By the way, it's a no-go on the spyder CF trunk lid. I tried quite a few places, none woudl make it unless they had 10-20 orders. Also, many tried to sell me an overlay service, which i feel is dumb. I want a Carbon fiber trunkskin is what i told them, without the spoiler holes or third brake light. Just a simple, flat, piece of carbon fiber molded in the shape of my trunk skin, i will use the metal underbracing, and nobody said Yes to that. sucks. Well i guess next year im stuck with an overlay... oh well...

Looks like my car when I first got my kit put on!! I have the exact shit, just I bought the Gen 2 sides, the ones that are lower. Here is a pic or 2.

Did you put mesh in the sideskirts? Can you post a close of of the skirts that shows the door line that you filled. I am getting ready to do the same thing to the side of my car. I have the Blitz sides on but I still need to pull them off to paint and mesh, I also want to fill the line in the door, do you just bondo that?
