I searched for a while on here and couldn't find a thread that would answer my question completely. I need to replace the two brake lines that go to the rear of my car. I have a 1991 talon tsi. I was wanting to use the SS Braided lines so I don't have to mess with taking a lot off and bending new hardlines into the original place because I heard it was pretty hard. I need to run the lines from the brake bias back to the calipers. I was wondering where I can find and purchase these lines and fittings (what size fittings and lines also) and also where I can have the fittings put on the lines so I can just take out the old lines and replace them with these new Braided lines. (I did see a site on one of the older threads but I am not sure it is what I need) I have not worked with these lines very much so correct me if I'm wrong somewhere. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If I'm reading your post correctly, what you want to do is replace the lines from the prop valve to the rear calipers with braided SS lines? If that's the case, I would highly recommend against it. Though they're stronger than rubber lines, they're still going to expand a bit over that sort of length leading to reduced braking efficiency.

I would suggest trying to find a used set of solid brake lines, and then just replace the flexible rubber lines at the back with SS lines.

Alright. I can see why I should run steel, I had a steel line pop when I was driving and its all rusted out and the other one is too. I would like to replace them both so I don't have the same problem again when I'm driving. I dont have a shop or a lift so I have limited space when I am under the car. I just thought SS Braided lines would expand a little but still have effective braking. What should I do in your opinion?

Braided which still expands, though not much, is still much better than rubber. Its not to expensive either. I have them on my car all the way around as well as a cluthc line but I am not sure of the fittings off hand.

Far better than rubber, yes, but running a new (or used) set of hard-lines is still the best choice.

eDeclpse92: Is there a pick n pull or similar nearby? Your best bet would be to try and get a set of lines off a car from a place like that. Will be cheaper than stainless lines, and the best choice all around.

Yes there is. There is only one 1g dsm that I know of in there and its a FWD. Anyways, I ended up getting Line to bend yourself at autozone and 2 unions, a double flare kit, and those 3/16 male ends. I cut where the brake lines were still good at which was right before the bend upwards to the rear of the car. I put the unions there and ran the bend it yourself tube from autozone to the fitting mounted in the wheel well. It just took me a bit to figure out the flaring and getting used to it. But thanks for all the inputs.

Just out of curiosity, I was trying to flare the tubes to put into the union and the union wouldn't fit with the flare. So I put it on and tightened it down and yanked on it and it wouldn't come off. Do they self lock when you tighten them down? I have no leaks anymore:hellyeah:
