Hey, this is my first time posting on the site but I’ve used it quite a bit. I’ve been up and down it looking for help but I can’t find anything definitive so any help would be appreciated.
My cars a 98’ Eclipse Spyder GS with the 4G64 engine and the F4A23 transmission. She’s been doing fine lately, occasionally shifts hard if I press the gas super hard and it downshifts into third, but won’t do it when I baby the throttle and drive fine.
I took her out this morning and when I turned out and it shifted into third, it was real rough and the rpms shot up. Wouldn’t really go into 4th and kept shifting back into 2nd, back and forth. At one point it felt like I was in neutral, rolling doing 40mph but at idle speed and giving it gas would just rev it up. Got off the road, tried all the gears and 2nd was fine but reverse stopped working entirely. Had to drive home in 2nd doing 20mph, no noise at all even in drive, just slipping in and out of third.
She’s got 206k miles and it’s the original transmission, replaced the fluid two years back while back with no issues, even seemed like it ran better afterwards. I’m really just looking to find out if it’s internal or electrical, couldn’t find any real answers on how to check the TCU codes, which I want to check for before I have to jump to it needing rebuilt.
Just took it on a 1k mile trip and was doing great until now, no lights at all on dash during the incident this morning. Fluid level is fine as well.
