I have a 2g talon tsi awd, the other day i was installing the glow gauges on the the cluster and they work good, but im guesing that maybe i did something wrong because now my speedometer doesnt work. The car was just recently bought so maybe it wasnt even my fault. Ive played with a little but no luck, sometimes it would work for about 20 mins or so and then it would stop working and go to zero... i was thinking that maybe it could be the speed sensor on the tranny, and if so how can i find out if it is? Or could it be the gauge cluster it self, can i fix the cluster maybe? this is really annoying, can somebody PLEASE help me. any help is appreciated. thanks :thumb:

Thanks, Defiant! Just fixed my speedo issue with the help of that picture. Thanks for suffering to bring that image to us. ;)

See? The search button DOES work! :)

hey defiant, or anyone who knows a lil bit about this stuff. i pulled out my speed sensor cause my trip odometer and speedometer quit working.....its got a gear on the end of it....so my questions is....my gear looks kinda worn out... does anyone know what the part number is, or the EXACT name i should call it when i go into a parts store like napa? also is there a certain way that the sensor should be sitting in there or is it more of an "insert and press down firmly"?

its for my 95 talon tsi awd...not my laser

I *think* I found the plug on my eclipse, via the one Defiant posted of his talon...still not working, though. Any suggestions?

I know he's pointing, but my engine bay looks a bit different than Defiant's, which is why I'm only partially sure I found the right plug. Judging by the similarities, though, I'm fairly certain I found the proper plug-I pulled it out and looked, nothing seemed to be busted, and plugged it back in. Speedometer still doesn't work.

I also checked the plug on the tranny's back side, near the firewall. I didn't pull it out and look at it, but its firmly seated in. Needle doesn't even twitch, though.

Hey! Sorry for bringing back an oldish thread, but my question fall right in this catagory!

Alright I have a 1997 Eclipse RS...My speedo and odometer have been broken for the longest time! So after reading many threads on speed sensors goind bad (on dsmtuners), I decided to go and look into the problem! OK so i took out the speed sensor, and attached a drill to the end of the metal shaft, and the speedo worked, so there is nothing wrong with the sensor!

SO, here is my question, how long is that metal shaft (the one on the speed sensor, that drops down into the tranny) supposed to be (I hope you know what I am talking about)? Because mine was only about an inch, I fear that maybe it is supposed to be longer!

Also does there have to be transmission fluid in the tranny for the speed sensor to work? Because I think mine is running low (not to sure though, how can I check?)

Thanks very MUCH!!

Thanks for the help! But can someone please tell me how long the metal shaft on the speed sensor is supposed to be?

Also is there supposed to be a plastic gear on the end of that shaft?

Please any help will be much appreciated!

PS: 1997 eclipse RS (non-turbo) THANKS!

I've searched all over mankind and back, and cannot find a 2G speed sensor ANYWHERE. Even the dealership parts guy said he couldn't find one listed. I need the whole piece, not just the white gear. Can anyone help me locate one? I'd really like to be able to keep tranny fluid in my tranny. It's a little rough shifting without it in 10 degree weather at first.

Mine is broken in half if your wondering.

Wow, a Mitsubishi counter dork can't find their own goddamned parts. There's a shocker for you.
See if he can figure it out from here. And feel free to tell him I said he's an idiot.

Ha yeah they all seem to be idiot's for the most part. Is that for a 420a motor though? They way the bellhousing looks and is facing, it seems so. I'll need the sensor for a spyder/galant 2.4 tranny. Maybe, just maybe if I show him a copy of that he will be able to pull the corresponding chart up and figure it out.

Okay instead of creating a new thread, I will just bring this one back.

Could someone show me a caps printout of the speed sensor part numbers, for a Galant, or Spyder? Thanks.

Okay, I will head to Mitsu tomorrow and see what comes of that. Were those for the Galant or Spyder Defiant?

Ok so I know its not called a "Speedo" line, but i'm having trouble today thinking of names for car parts. Anyway, Where does the line that runs your speedometer and your miles guages connect to the tranny. I would really like a picture of this as I can't find it and I don't know what it looks like.
Thanks,
Brian

Like they said, by the firewall, above where the driverside axle goes into the tranny. Just look for a fat black cable coming out of the firewall and going into the tranny. Shouldnt be hard to see at all, look at it from the passenger side.

obviously my speedometer and mileage gauges aren't working so how hard do I need to tighten this cable anybody know? And if it is dissconnected is it really simple to just reconnect it? My haynes manual just says reconnect line so its really unhelpful
