So i just bought a Kenwood DPX-770MD to install into my 98 eclipse gs. When I bought the car it already had a Dual XD18bt single din radio that a previous owner installed. Im pretty sure my car has the infinity audio system because of the tweeters in the dash. But this means that I have a factory amplifier under the passenger seat that would need to be bypassed in order to properly run the Kenwood, since it has its own internal amp. I am unsure if it was already bypassed and my door speakers are blown so I was going to replace them anyway. Would I be running the speaker wires directly to the radio unit? I have never done anything like this before

I have a 98 gs and it also has the tweeters in the dash, but no factory amp. You can check underneath the passenger seat for the amp. If you do have the factory amp, you can purchase the harness for it so you don't have to run individual wires to the radio. They also make a harness to bypass the amp completely if it no longer works, so you can wire up an aftermarket one. If you don't have the factory amp, just wire it up like normal, which I'm guessing is how it's ran currently. Always use an aftermarket harness, it just makes everything cleaner and easier for the next guy to figure out.

Do all the speakers work with the old head unit, besides being blown? If so, and for easiest install, I would piggyback off what was done previously. It could be a a mitah adapter from the preamp output of the old head unit into the factory amp. Or they may have wired each speaker direct to the head unit. The later would be ideal if you want to use the onboard amp and eliminate the factory amp.

(according to AI your new head unit has a preamp output too)

Is the amp under the carpet? I checked under the seat and didn’t feel anything but my buddy said it’s under the carpet if its there

It is not under the carpet. It would be exposed directly under the passenger seat if it had one from the factory, and wasn’t removed during the previous stereo install. It seems you don’t have it so you shouldn't have to worry about the factory amp.
