smoke and starting?

Hey guys have some things I need answers to. I did some research but just not sure. Ok so here is the first one…when I start my car for the first time of the day it will crank and crank and crank and it just wont start. About 3 to five minutes of cranking it will finally turn over. The idle will shoot up to 2000 and then slowly shoot to 1200 to 1000. I have been told it’s a cold air sensor I have know clue were or what this is.

Alright on to number 2.…after my car is started I let it warm up and white smoke puffs out the back. I have put a white piece of paper up to it and there is no black film, also I don’t notice any blue to it. When I have someone hit the gas the smoke stops, when the gas is let off it starts back up. At this time the tube form the bov is off just tell I find a hose that will fit with my djon hard pipe intake tube. When I had the stock one on I always had the tube on and yes it still smoked when the tube was on. Any help is appreciated thanks guys.

The white smoke sounds like it is burning coolant. Like a bad headgasket.

i have a crx radiator in my car the coolant leve is fine. and it does not get hot.

This is kinda a stupid question but, did it start smoking out of nowhere or did it start smoking when it got cold.

try a compression test and see what your results are -- if your within 10 psi of each piston then no worries and you can move on to other things

like maybe fuel filter, injectors -- im just trying to think what could be the cause of your 3 to 5 min of cranking

yeah i got to thinking that too. i bought it 3 months ago and i live in kc...but it was in the low fiftys high fourtys...but your right that could be it and it is always in the garage.

I was just asking because my car never smoked during the summer and then when it got cold out the car would smoke.

ok i will do that can i pick that up at an auto store iv seen it done but i have never done it myself. Yes im really wanting to stop the cranking i will be needing a starter soon...BY THE WAY I WHEN I BOUGHT IT THE GUY TOLD ME I DIDNT HAVE TO PUSH IN THE CLUTCH TO START IT! I ALWAYS DO BUT THAT CANT BE GOOD AND WHEN IM CRANKING IT SOMETIMES I CAN TAKE THE KEY OUT AND IT WILL STILL CRANK!!!

Then is it poosible that your ignition is jacked up and cuasing the issue. Well the cranking issue?

yeah most likely but after it has been started once it fiers right up after that evey time then the next day all over again. i may just get it looked at.

Ok. Well you should go ahead and do a compression test. And see what your results from that are.

Also quite a few people have stated that they have issues with starting becuase of problems with the Temperature sensors. So that is another thing that you could check out.

hey thanks alot i will look into it and once im not snowed in i will get the compression tested. i will post if it is bad do you have any idea what it should be across the bord?

Not off the top of my head. You can probably find it easily in a hayne manual or on this site.
