I was shoppin around for some stuff to add to my girlfriends 99 gs and i came across a chip that claims 50 hp and torque. Its only 70 bucks and i was wonderin if anyone had any experience with it or if maybe its somethin i should steer clear of. It would be on a 99 NT A/T check it out at SLR Motorsports
 
It will still cost another $50 to have your ecu socketed to plug the chip in. Thats if you even have an eprom ecu. But there is no way it will add even close to 50hp on a stock non turbo. You would be lucky to get 7hp. Plus they really didnt say how it increases power i.e.(timing,fuel) Start with an intake and exhaust if you dont have already. Then maybe a turbo kit
 
thanks i kinda figured that just wonderin before i blow the money. She isnt into alot of power but my tsi is down and im drivin hers so i wanna give it a little somethin at least. all it has is a throttle body spacer.
 
There are no eprom or socketed ECUs or performance chips for the 2gnt. That SLR thing is just an overpriced version of one of those resistor mods they sell on ebay for $5. It just splices into some wires to alter some signals to your ECU, it will not gain you any HP and can possibly mess up your car, stay away from it.
 
thanks i appreciate it. i definately dont wanna mess up the car. im down to my last eclipse for now LOL Know anyone with a 1g tsi head?
 
Check the classifieds on this site as well as dsmtrader and ebay. if not, they have always rebuilt my heads for about $300 local to me
 
cool. my guy told me that it was beyond repair tho. Said it was overheated. and on top of that my crank was scratched up and needed to be turned too much so now i gotta find a new crank too!!! :cry:
 
a n/t head will work as well if you swap the cams. I forget but i believe one of the cams are the same though but may have to be switched to other side. on 1g though
 
oh really? im lookin into the differences of 1g 2g heads ### i have a 2g head for cheap. i just gotta find one soon.
 
i would recommend putting a 2g head on a 1g. I believe they use different size head bolts as well as have different ports so you will need the intake manifold as well which has a 52mm throttle body opening so youd have to port it. Not worth it imho and more costly than the 1g
 
oh ok. i found one on ebay that im buyin and the bid ends tonight so hopefully i get it and then i can get it to the machine shop and get this thing back on the road. :D
