Hi there,

here's Mike from Switzerland.
I've got a little question.

What are the normal Oil-temperatures on a stock 2G GSX?

I always had about 180 -200 F, but recently I always get 230 - 250 F and I'm getting worried about, that something may be wrong.

Thanks a lot

Mike

Hi 4G63-GST,

Are these 160-180 degrees Celsius or F (Fahrenheit) ?

Thanks

Mike

He has an " f " after the numbers. 230- 250 is too hot. Flush your radiator to make sure its not clogged.

On my 1g with the stock oil/water cooler, I had oil temps around190-200*f around town and 210-220*f on the highway. After I installed a 90 external air/oil cooler, my around town temps went to 165-175*f and highway went to 180-195*f. I personally dont like anything over 205* so that was the reason for me swapping oil coolers.

Oil and water temperatures will run very close to the same under "normal" conditions. Particularly if your engine has a water-to-oil heat exchanger.

250°F is higher than you want to normally want to run conventional motor oils. Synthetics would endure it better, but it's still on the high side.

I'm running my stock engine on roughly 14psi. I use mobil one synthetic motor oil, and I have a prosport premium oil temp gauge installed with an adapter at the oil filter. Does anyone know what would be normal oil temperature ranges, and what temp is approaching too hot (so I should back down on it)?

Between 160-220 degrees. It's not necessary to having an oil temp gauge or anyone of the future gauge that you lists on street cars especially it you're only running 14 psi on which I assume is a stock turbo. Save up for real mechanical engine parts and then you'll need those gauges.

your kidding right?

250-300 is about where I'm at when I track my caddy...as for street driving i'm ~20* over my water temp.

im running a stock 1990 oil cooler, my autometer oil temp gauge as of now in city driving the temps are around 180F-200F, highway 210F-215F, i live in florida so its not the coolest place on earth. sound normal ? or should i go with an aftermarker setup ?

I think its supposed to read around 180. If you can afford to, go aftermarket. Cooler is always better

cooler is NOT always better, test show if you run too cool you could end up with premature engine failure due to the piston rings wearing down to fast.

i want some definite answers, not a I THINK.
