Well today I finally got around to doing something that I have wanted to do the last few years. I was sick of the crappy color of the 2g door panels so I went to Joann Fabrics to see how much micro-suede would cost me for a yard. Well I was in luck, it was regularly $19.99 per yard for the upholstery grade stain resistant micro-suede. Turns out their fabric was 40% off so I got it for 12 bucks. The orginal color was the grey vinyl and I made it black micro-suede. The pics make it look lighter than it really is. I used some spare panels I had lying around instead of the ones that came in the door. Here are a few pics of what I did(and no wrinkles at all:cool: )

That looks good! The talon cloth insert on the doors I can deal with. The pattern is not too bad. What I can't stand is the pattern on the 97-99, that damn elephant print. I hated it when I had my cloth interior.

Looks good. :thumb: Doing the headliner in micro-suede too? :D

Yes sir I am. I bought 2 yards of this stuff so I think that will be plenty. I considered doing a write-up but I figured not enough people would care.

I have been wanting to do that to mine except with tan micro- suede. Do you have a picture of the back of the panel, looking at mine I am confused as to how you get that panel out without breaking anything, and then still be able to get it back in?

that looks awsome man, you should def do a write up on it. Especially if you do the headliner. What kind of ahesive did you use?

WOW. What an improvement. I hate the 2g interiors cheap feel. I have wanted to do something similar for a couple years but never do it. Anyway, maybe this will give me the motivation. Nice work!

To get the panel off did you have to break off or cut the white things, or did yours have screws holding it on? The reason I am asking is because mine looks like I am going to have to break them to get them to come off. I am leery of doing this if I don't know that they will stay back on...

They had screws holding them in.

Well that sucks for me... must be that because my car is an esi they just molded them as one. I did do my center console armrest cover in tan suede last night though and it looks great.

That looks awesome. Quick question relating to my car though, I have a all gray interior with gray cloth seats, if I were to do this should I get black or gray fabric or just not bother?

use real contact cement on the headliner or it will sag after a few months. like the dap stuff in the red can at home depot. you can get a cheap paint gun for spraying it at autozone for like 10.99

Dude..............do the write up! Atleast you'll have the satisfaction knowing you helped someone. If I buy the car I'm looking at I'll be re-upholstering too.

Good job! I've been wanting to do this for quite some time as well, but I've been hit with a case of lazy and/or no free time. One of these days; but those pics have definately reminded me that I still want to do that.

I got the idea from the same place too, a BMW. :) I want to do both the a and b pillar and the rear triangular panels around the back windows in black. :)

....and the headliner, so do the write-up! :p haha

I used to have a '95 GS and then got my '95 GSX and before I sold the GS I took the door panels off both cars because the GSX power door lock/window switch was messed up and noticed that my GS door panels had the inserts screwed in, while the GSX had the white plastic tabs 'melted' together holding it in.

I swapped the entire door panels after noticing this, because I knew I wanted to re-upholster them eventually.
