Hello!
This is my first post. I'm trying to repair my neighbor's son's car. It's a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0 N/T. When he bought it the mechanic threw in a 1995 2.0 motor. I found this out the hard way.
Fast forward to two days ago. The car just completely died on him while driving to class. It would just turn over and over. His mom calls me, I come out to help. The car fires right up and it has engine codes (which he hasn't checked) so we try to drive it to Autozone. The car dies a few blocks away and won't start up. I have it towed straight to his garage. Because the Tach would not budge at all I assume it's the crankshaft position sensor. I go to replace it and figure out it had the 95' round pin connector so I order the pigtail and new CPS and install all of that yesterday. Go to start it and the same thing (just turns over).
My question is, should I just buck up and pa the $55 for the OBD2 scanner to scan it? Because it's a 95 OBD1 engine, are the diagnostics still the same? Do you think it's the camshaft position sensor now or should I run some diagnostics with a multimeter to pin point it?
Thanks all, I'm just trying to help him get to school and his family doesnt have the money for a mechanic.
Thanks,
Matt
