Ok, I don't have many mods on a 95 Talon TSi (I have some parts sitting around untill spring when I'm putting them in). Basicly I want to know if a 3" stainless cat-back + downpipe should be the FIRST mod to make... I always heard it should be, but someone was telling me that if I don't upgrade my fuel delivery first, I might run too lean and could detonate!!!... this is the first I've heard of this!, any truth to it?

when I decide to increase the boost to about 18psi, what else would I need...
here's what I have waiting to be installed...
MAF translator with GM maf sensor, 190 fuel pump w/ rewiring kit, turboXS dual stage manual boost controller, and a SAFC (I'm planning on getting a digital air/fuel gauge as reading the standard one tells me very little)
Would I need 550cc's too along with these other installs to run this psi on a 3" stainless???
Any other recomendations?? (I'm running the T25 still with the stock SMIC)


(I already have a HKS SSQ BOV installed, and an HKS turbo timer type 1 along with boost and air/fuel gauges)
 
Yes with an SAFC you will need 550's to effectively run 18psi on pump gas (93 octane) I was barely able to pull of 18psi on my stock injectors and I was tuning with DSMlink which doesnt have the high overhead of an SAFC.
 
you need a bigger turbo, you can't run 18psi on the T25...well you could...but you would blow your turbo pretty fast...get a better one...i think the T28 out of the 1G can handle 18psi...pretty well, or better.
 
Ok, so if I add a 16G and 550's along with the other mods I'd be good?... any recomendations??

the stock turbo in a 1g is a 14b not a t28. the t28 is a good 2g upgrade b/c it is a direct replacement.
 
wait, i thought the 1g's had the T28....what has the T28 then?...its just after market? what is the 14b good to boost to then, and what are the difference? flow, size/boost speed, max psi, reliability, etc.
 
depends how much you are boosting, you may want to go with 660's instead of 550's, but it all depends on the fuel rail and fuel pump and such.
 
i dont know what is safe to run on the 14b cus i am not a 1g guy. i know the stock 14b flows 405 cfm. the 1g turbo is also different if the car is auto or manual. the turbo on the 5spd is a lil bigger. the t28 is a known aftermarket turbo and a bolt on upgrade for the t25 on the 2g. if you already have the 14b, just buy the 2g adapter kit that they make. since it works for the 16g im pretty sure it'll work for the 14b b/c that is a direct replacement for that turbo. hope this helps and hope it works out..
 
i have a 2g talon, i was wondering which turbo to get...i was thinking of just going to some junk yards and trying to thieve a first gen one.
