hey guys.Last weekend i took my tranny out fot a clutch replacement.I noticed that i have a lot of oil and other dirt under my car.what is the best way to clean everything??? i tried some engine greasers, but it didnt cleaned out.plus i got a burned oil all over my downpipe and and bottom of the engine, which is reallt stinks while im driving.

i found some oil leak coming out of the oil pan and oil drain hose.replaced old gasket to a new one,but even worse now then it was before WTF??!!

heh i sanded out twice with a small grit, cleaned oil round that area, applied barake cleaner and wiped that off with a rug.then installed a new gasket and having leaks now,i dont know what else should i try....

You say you're spraying oil under your car everywhere and have a phantom leak from the oil pan? Try coating both sides of the oil pan gasket with a thin film of RTV. Make sure your valve stem seals on your valves and head are good too, making sure you're not pressurizing your valve cover and crank case.

Is your oil drain line leaking or is the gasket leaking? What kind of gasket are you using? Is it brand new everytime or are you using the same one over? Have you tried ultra grey rtv? I picked up two cans of brakleen and a big box of rag'n'box to clean up the underside of my car. It takes time but it worked very well. It cut through 16 years of road grime and oil with ease!

One thing you will need is crush washers on the turbo oil return line bolts. That is where a lot of leaks come from and not many people figure that one out until they try to fix it several times. You should be able to find the crush washers at any auto part stores or hardware stores.

everytime im using a new gasket (oem)

its leaking through the gaset,i took the drain line off and checked for leaks, didnt find.

i want to clean everything first ,so it would be easier for me to see where those damn leaks are coming from.so after that i want to fix everything

hey guys i have my build posted but the previous owner had several oil leaks from who knows where haha so im in the process of rebuilding everything and doing all that but their is oil all over the engine bay wires hoses and all over the block does anyone have any good or usefull ideas to get all that oil off ive been using carb cleaner for the parts ive been taking off and cleaning them with that but the whole engine bay and block that would be alot of carb cleaner haha so if anyone has any ideas let me know thanks

Run the car until the engine is at normal operating temps. Cover with plastic or completely remove the electrical parts and sensors you can, especially the MAF, battery and fusebox. Then use a can of engine degreaser or a bottle of simple green and go ape poop with the spray. Let it sit for about 30-45 minutes. Rinse with a pressure washer at a very low pressure setting or a garden hose hooked up with HOT water or steam. Do everything you can to keep water out of the turbo inlet, BOV and avoid like the plague any electrical parts you couldn't remove.

sweet thanks man once i get her up and running ill do that ill take it down to the wash place near my house with their pressure washer so i dont have a mess to clean up at my house haha =p

i went to a garage and used their HIGH PRESSURE AIR HOSE GUN ( i put inside the gun a RUST REMOVER i am not sure about the name maybe S26 or so ) so i was basicaly spraying this rust remover at the engine bay ( in 5 minutes my engine was like new , no scraping no hard time nothing) i did it twice once with the s26 and once with PETROL) i put gasoline inside the AIR PRESSURE gun and it did the job.

my car smoked after for about 1 hour but after everything got dry it stopped. i have a brand new engine bay that i could eat from if necessary :) :thumb:

good luck

i was wondering the same thing since i have a mess of oil, so to avoid messing up the maf and air filter should the whole intake pipe be taken off and just cover the turbo inlet?

Buy a 5 gal pail of paint thinner or solvent and use that. Spray it on, let it set and then bust out the pressure washer.
Super Clean/Purple Power/Simple Green, etc works pretty good too, it comes in 5 gal pails as well.

paint thinner i never thought of that i might use that since thats ###### about one of the strongest things out of all the ones mentioned ughh cant stand people who dont take care of thier dsm now i gotta clean it all up haha

FWIW, I like a clean engine as much as the next guy, but remember that anything you spray off down into the street is going to end up in someone's drinking water, maybe your own.

I've had best luck soaking with engine degreaser, light scrub with a scotch brite pad and rinsing with brake clean into my oil drain pan.

Gunk makes foaming engine degreaser that works 'pretty well' but B-12 Chemtool carb cleaner works THE BEST. Its nasty gross stuff (ethanol, methanol, MEK, toluene, mixed xylenes) and will strip paint like nobody's business but it WILL CLEAN. It removes gunk and grime like a sponge picks up spilled coffee.
