I have a GVR4 with no motor, tranny, or transfer case. It has full suspension however and I'm going to run an FP red on is as a street car (;) ) I'm looking for a motor and have found a local who is selling a 6 bolt block with work done to it. .It has
JE pistons and JE rings
Eagle rods
ARP rod studs
balance shaft removal kit
bored .020 over
all new bearings
perfect reground stock crankshaft
completely assembled and balanced
stock oil pan is included but not attached

I asked him what the compression ratio the pistons were and he said he didn't know and would ask the company who build it (reputable local shop). The block has never been run or even put in a car and he says no reasonable offer will be refused. My question to you is that if he is running no lower than 9:1 then what would you think about using that compression with such a large turbo (red). I had been planning on 8.5:1 but was thinking about settling for this if the price was right. He says that any reasonable offer will not be refused and am curious as to what amount you guys would start at as offers. Thanks for anyones input.

Sorry I have to because of your sig pic... ROFL... I hope I don't get in trouble for this one. I love those pictures.

Cool, I was sweating on that one...

As for as the price you should offer I don't really know... Does he have reciepts? I would look at his reciepts and offer a few hundered less...

The guy I bought my car from lied to me about what had been done to it (internally.)

But thats just me... Joe

I know the place who did the work so yes I'll get receipts. I'm curious more so to what you think about settling for 9:1 compression on such a big turbo. I'm going to be running up to 2 bar at racing times so I'm wondering if 9:1 is too high.

I think your an ....Oh "opionions for you" not "Of you"...
:D

Personally I think for a street car that would be fine. The lower compressions may cause issues, and be less drivable possibly

It would cause lots of lag but I don't see what other issues I would have. Then again I don't know much about 8.5:1 ratio street cars. ;)

I have 95 pistons (8:5:1) with a decked block and a milled head. I would say final compression ratio is right around 9:1. It does such a good job of spooling a big turbo its not even funny. Just about every forced induction car in motorsports runs 9:1 its very popular. You shouldn’t have any trouble running pump gas either. I would only ever buy a JE piston motor if I got it cheap. Most of the people that I have seen use JE pistons have had a lot of problems with them. If you want to go with quality internals I hear that Larry is selling his Ross pistons and Crower Rods.

Really? I haven't heard many problems with them but thanks for the info. I would probably be running 103 or 104 (I think those are the levels) mixed in with 93 or 94 the majority of the time. Otherwise just straight 94. But you're sure I shouldn't have a problem running up to 28 or 29 pounds of boost at times with 9:1?

Everyone runs 9:1 compression Hill, Shepherd etc. Marco even does pretty well running big boost with 10:1 compression you just have to tune for it.

People have had problems with JE pistons because the expand a lot when heated so you have to run pretty loose clearances. Magnus Motorsports refuses to run them anymore and most other places have stopped using them in favor or Ross pistons.

Well since I am considering buying a non turbo block then that would not exactly be ideal for me. Thanks for the heads up on that I'm going to look for more info from some other people I know who've run JE in the past. :)

I’m not saying JEs are junk I’m just saying that I would look elsewhere. I would really look into getting Larry's internals and find yourself a turbo block. I have a spare one that I could sell you. But I would never put money into a non turbo block.

Does the block have a head? Do you have the crank and pistons with it or just a bare block? If you have AIM then Instant message me at UndergroundR32. If not then E-Mail me at [email protected].
