Get a head unit with a usb port on it. Like this one:

My brother runs a pioneer unit in his car that has a usb port on the back. He ran the wire into his glove box and got a hard drive out of a smashed ipod. All you need is a 10 dollar enclosure from ebay and youre set. The deck controls the whole 30gb worth of music stored on it so you will never have to change a CD

I bought an FM transmitter off eBay for $7 shipped (from China) that has a USB port and directly plays mp3's off a thumb drive. It plugs right into the 12v outlet. It also has a headphone jack to plug an iPod or the likes into. You control what songs play with a few built in buttons.

The sound quality isn't too bad. Not that the stock system is the greatest.

In my opinion: I would say. Get an after-market CD player. (I prefer Kenwood, but whatever) then just hook up a MP3 player through the AUX jacks, or the front input.....Then you can hold the player in your lap and switch songs without taking your eyes off the road. But I'm old fashioned. Haven't made the dive (or even knew they existed) to USB compatible stereos.........That's my 2.

Edit: I use my iPhone for music, with the said ^ set-up you can use your cell phone/mp3 player for tunes......If you use your phone as much as me for music (alot) The AUX. set-up is perfectly fine, no need for USB, thumb drive stuff......

Almost any aftermarket these days will have that option... I've installed Pioneer, Kenwood, and (my personal favorite) Alpine head units, and only the base of the base models don't have that option. Some have the USB port on the front face of the radio, and others on a cable that gets run to the glove box/center console.

Pretty much, whatever radio brand you prefer, check out their website, and you will find plenty of info... then just decide and buy. I bought the Alpine IVA-W505 about 6 months ago and haven't regretted the decision yet.:thumb:
