Poor Timing Advance at WOT

Thanks for the reply, but I'm confused. if i was drenching it on the 680 setting, and I set it to the 580 setting and it ran fine, how is that rich? seeing as i just added even more fuel.

I know this might not be something that you want to spend money on, but i just put in a keydiver chip w/ a 95 ecu. Wow.
My car idles rock solid with everything zeroed out (maft, safc) I had to lean it out some for WOT. But i have to say i am am smiling like crazy. Before the car would stall at red lights, studder some and would hit fuel cut. I was getting pissed off, and this chip made me want to mod some more.
FYI- It corrects for your larger injectors in the ecu itself, no fooling the ecu.
If you get too frustrated, i would think about this route or the "link".
I have to say that Jeff O. who makes the chips may be the greatest experience i have had to date with dealing with someone over the net. A+++++++
Just some food for thought. :thumb:
Good Luck,

right now it is set on the 650cc setting. It kinda sputters when i rev it up in neutral, so I'm guessing a little lean. I set my AFC to 0 all the way accross and will be essentially starting over, this time I will give the MAFT more time to "think" before making changes. I will try to do 2 runs every day and post the logs of each as I go. This way, hopefully you guys will chime in and let me know if I am doing something wrong. Thanks for all the help.

One more note, I did the POT mod for the misfire detection. depending on where I set it, my STFT go way lean or way rich....is this normal? How does Baro. Pressure Sensor control fuel...

You need to be careful with that POT mod. You should only turn it clockwise just enough to make the CEL not come on. Don't turn it all the way and do a hard run, you will lean it out.
It has been my understanding that the maft setting are off on the chart and should only be a starting point.
Good Luck and watch everything colse when you make the runs. :thumb:

Whats the POT mod?

Also, watch your RPMs when you rev it up like that in nutral, then try to LEAN things out on the AFC where its sputtering, then rev it again. Make sure you're not going above your HIGH settings on your AFC, but press it enough to get into your low settings. See what happens after you lean things out a bit.

The "POT Mod" is essentilly a mod that us 6bolt swap guys use to trick the computer into not looking for misfires. It allows us to manually crank up the value the computer sees for the Barometric Pressure Sensor. To check for a misfire, the computer must see certain values, one of which is the baro. sensor being within a certain pressure, with the POT mod, we take this value out of the range that the ECU requires to check for misfires, this completely stops the ECU from even looking for misfires. POT is short for potentiometer, basically a radio volume knob which is spliced into the sensor wire. Hope this helps explain it, there is more info about it on Magnus Motorsports homepage.

Well, I started over and reset the ECU and all my piggyback controllers, I set the POT back to stock, no alteration. I got the MAFT to idle well and drive well at Lo-throttle at the 620cc setting, so this is hopefully closer to where it should be. I am going to leave it there and fine tune with the SAFC now. I find that if I crank the POT too much, it messes with the fuel control, and/or throws a CEL for the Baro. sensor. I also set the boost down to ~15 psi and will be getting that set as near perfect as I can before turning up the boost. This is where I am now, I have been busy, so I will post some logs as soon as I have time to make some good runs.

Thanks for all the help so far. I'll keep you posted...

OK, I recently had a few hours to burn so I made some runs. I leaned out the AFC a ton, and this is what I have so far. I am running 19 psi right now with 93 octane fuel. Let me know what you guys think of this log. Thanks

Am i the only one that caught this?? The stock FPR is being overrun by the 255hp fp so he cant control his FP. Its going to be hard to lean it out with out a FPR. You need to look into getting a AFPR and the gauge. By looking at your log, you didnt lean it out a whole lot even tho you did at the afc. Your still hitting knock as soon as your hitting the gas only in midrange tho :talon:

Yeah. I was just seeing what happened when he leaned things out to see if it ran properly.

thanks guys. I'm going to invest in a AFPR and a gauge. That was going to be my next mod anyway. Thanks for the input. I was curious as to why, when I first go WOT, my timing advance jumps around? I thought it was suppose to go down to base timing and slowy increase. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Also, what do you guys recommend for a good lower priced AFPR and gauge combo?

Well, here's your first "good thing" about them. I've got the Buschur bolt-on and it does exactly what it is supposed to do :)

Ah, I stand corrected. That is the ONLY one I've heard good things about, but then again it's $$$$. But you pay for quality I guess, eh?
