I pulled my head because I was getting horrible compression and suspected the valves were bad after a horrible knocking noise. As you can see every single intake valve kissed my pistons. I would obviously just replace the pistons but I really don't have the time, money or resources to do this right now. My question is, will those knicks I got from the valves directly hamper my performance or cause my car to be unreliable, is it vital that they be replaced. I don't want opinions, I just want to know the truth, because if it means replacing my pistons I probably won't be able to keep my car and I don't want that to happen. Thanks a lot.

We have had to use some with more valve damage than that with no ill effects.
You should be fine to just get the valves done and go. But it would be ALOT less work to change the pistons now while the head is off.

But the pistons were out of the car so We were able to check the sides as well to make sure there was no damage.

Can't tell you if you will have any issues based on those pictures. If you can't replace them, you should take this opportunity to pull them out, take them to a shop to be professionally inspected and, if they're still useable, install new rings and bearings. At least, that's what I would do at the least.

Then again, if you can't rebuild the engine, install the new valves, slap on a new HG and put it back together. If it works, you dodged a bullet, but if it's still ####erd up, then you'll still have better luck selling the car with a complete engine in it and a known problem.

Good luck to you.

If you can, find the "Parts Dinosaur" website and see if you really can't afford new pistons. He sells stockers, has excellent customer service, and very agreeable pricing.

I would do a water leak test to see if you cracked a piston(highly dought it,judging form the pics) if they are cracked definitely change the pistons, if not like she said^ "get a valve job and go" u should be OK. what caused your valves to hit, just curious?

That's the problem, I'm not exactly sure, cause my cam gears are lined up perfectly, but a guy I know and I think that the problem was the with the cam sprocket.
Thanks for the help guys.
