Circled are the areas that wont seem to dry. They're still sticky and it's been like 4 days! Everything else dried fine, all other panels, just these parts on both door panels (the parts that oddly enough are covered by the door fabric/carpeting, or the parts that don't see daylight). Has anyone else had this happen? Do I need to strip it off these areas and repaint it?

I'm guessing it's some kind of chemical reaction between the paint and dor panel material. It may take an extremly long time (days), you could try a blow dryer also, then again it may never fully dry.:(

Hey.. this happened to my boyfriends doors too whenever he painted his interior. The door panels react different.. with his car it was the paint. If you used paint that is for interior's try using a different paint. I think we used engine paint on his doors and they were dry within 2 days.. I hope everything works for ya

Think I'll go engine paint and see how that works. Just weird that the ONLY part not drying are the parts covered usually. Oh well, engine paint next! Krylon did work good on everything else though. :thumb: :thumb:

id use paint stripper on the panel to get the release agent off it and all and any other chemicals on there and spray it again with primer, i hope. and easy with the clear, it makes it crack and peel if u dont do it right

Did you use krylon fusion? I had the same problems. If you use it on a flexable surface like door panels it will remain sticky. Mine eventually dried like 3 months after I panted it. Also if you clear coat over it, It will still "print" When you lay something on it. Either wait or strip it with some stripper that wont damage plastic.

Hey.. if you use engine paint this time. You dont need clear coat.. engine paint works like a charm :)

i had the same problems with my door panels, just fixed it yesterday, i used a flat white paint instead of high gloss, and no clear coat, looks better and its not sticky. :thumb:

they're all held on with metal clips, and I scrubbed the crap outta the door with alcohol. I didn't use primer b/c the other stuff worked w/o it. I'm going to strip it off and try again. Damn it so close!!!

What color was your door before? the tan color? Anyways it looks good now except of the drying problem... This may have been mentioned already but don't use aircraft stripper to remove the paint. It will eat holes and bubble the plastic material. Not trying to state the obvious, but I just don't want to see a DSMer upset because he has to buy a new door panel. Post pictures when finished! :thumb:

Get a vinyl prep like the "bulldog" brand or one from SEMS. That stuff is great and washes off with water. Let the part dry really good, I know you want to get it done but don't rush it.

After the prep wash, then use Bulldog adhesion promoter. The vapors are toxic so let it air out afterwards ad use a mask. Contains xelene and tuelene (spelled however, use phonics if you have too)

Now you should be ready to paint more or less.

I've looked at the paint areas of about 10 stores and never seen/heard of any vinyl prep. Any place in particular to pick it up? And thanks for the paint stripping info. Actually all I have right now is that aircraft stripper (for my valve cover) but guess I won't be using that on the doors hehe :thumb: :thumb:

Most autobody supply stores should have SEMS Vinyl prep. Plastic bottle. Blue and white lable Maybe it is not a brand used in your area, but it is a rather huge name so I would think they [autobody supply store] would have it.
