oil temp gauge problem

i searched and found very little on oil temp guages. it was working fine before i set out on my 500 mile trip and damn nearly at the end of the trip i noticed oil temp gauge was reading low. i was like what the??? and i know it wasnt doing that before. when boost would kick in or i would go up a hill with cruise control engaged then it would go up to half then slowly drop down. back to a quarter or damn nearly on the bottom. coming back from my trip i said to my self well let me leave the cruise control off and see what happens by just using my foot. well it looked more livelier then. the gauge spent alot of time close to the middle. the car works fine have not noticed anything different. but this gauge reading so low and reacting so slow bothers me. what gives someone?

Is this an aftermarket gauge you've put on? Probably a sensor in its last days.

If you're referring to a factory gauge, you have no oil temp gauge.

to elaborate a touch if it is a factory guage then it's probably the oil pressure guage..not the oil temperature guage, in which case replace it with something that gives real #'s instead of "gee..it's kind of a little below half"
