might be a newbie question but i have a good amount of oil comin out of my breather filter now thats been on for about 8 months. any ideas on why? do i need to change the filter? is something wrong? anyhow just let me know

sorry to jack the thread, but couldnt you just clean the breather filter? they are kinda pricey last time i checked and it would suck to have to replace them every 3 months.

If you use one of those cheap inline fuel filters instead, it's more affordable to replace every three months-- they're only like $2.

True.

I had a breather filter, but you have to realize that even if it's getting proper ventilation/isn't being clogged by oil, it's still not getting the same pressure relief as it would be if it was hooked up to your intake pipe. When the turbo is spooling/engine is running, air is pulled through the vaccuum line which helps aleviate pressure all together.

when that happened to me, it was do to excessive blow by... more exactly 2 cracked ring lands on the #2 and #4... do a compression test... not saying it could be the same... but better to find out now.

yea i have the same problem. im thinkin of routing it back into the intake just to save the hastle and stop my car from losing oil. i have a breather filter and i have it suspended in a soup can so the oil doesnt get all over the damn place. :p just change it with a cheap fuel filter like everyone else said or route it back in.

I had mine vented and just dumping on the ground awhile back with no filter. I thought I remember my instructor at STI awhile back mentioning that sometimes you can actually pull in air from there so I just put it back on the intake to keep dirt from entering my engine. I had a filter on it at one time but never liked the idea of the case vapor not being able to leave the engine fast enough. Run it to your exhaust maybe? hmmm this gets me thinking now... :D PCV valve maybe?

To stop your car from losing oil? Yeah, it won't lose oil-- it'll just move from inside the engine to throughout the intake/intercooler and gunk everything up.

Just run it straight to the ground, but still put that cheap fuel filter on the end of the hose. A catch can is still the best solution, however, for both the breather hose and PCV hose.
