O2 sensor problem

Ok so my upstream oxygen sensor has its wires cut, i went to check it out and found out the sensor is rounded out (from previous owner) so i cant take it out. I know the front sensor helps the computer with keeping the perfect air fuel ratio for combustion. Is it only emissions related? if i dont bother to fix it and leave it plugged in there will it run fine other than a cel? I live in new mexico so there are no emissions testing here so thats not a big deal.

Its not just for emissions. If it's not working you could get stuck in limp mode or just get really bad gas mileage. Can make the car run super rich or super lean depending on how it's reading. I would source another o2 housing and get a new sensor and be done with it.

Will i be fine to drive it though? Untill i could get a new housing and install it? I can live with the bad gas milage. It seems to drive fine, accept for a low idle sometimes

Mine are cut too and sensor replaced with wideband sensor for Afr gauge. Still drive it daily even though it runs really rich.
