Ask Me, Virginia
After taking my O2 housing off for a turbo rebuild, I noticed that one of the bolts was broken. Checking the VFAQ leads me to believe that the broken bolt was actually a stud.

Is it ok to replace it with a bolt and nut then call it a day? Not sure what the stock setup is like, but the other 3 were bolts with nuts and washers.

Can I replace the stud with a bolt? Why was there a stud in the first place?

Thanks

I don't see why you couldn't replace it with a bolt or another stud of the same type. I replaced all of my intake manifold and exhaust manifold studs with bolts and they work just fine. I wouldn't be to worried about it as long as you get it torqued down properly

Yes, you can use bolts rather than studs. The bolt/stud size is M10x1.25. A length of 25-30mm would do the trick. And don't forget to use anti-seize.

I have an extra stud I pulled from a 14b if you need one. I ran a tap over it all the threads are good.
