o2 dump. Bye bye boostcreep.

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Well everyday I think that it is better out in Cali, i mean they have fast cars, fast women, and almost legal prostitution. But then I remember, wait I live in Indiana, there is not such thning as emmissions testing, I can have my atmosperic dump for my O2 O ya and the country roads are KILLER!!!

So just some reason to why Indiana is good, and is probably the only one, all these damn camaro's thinking that they are big and bad with a POS V8 o ya and the fugly mustangs too! God i smoke them ALL WITH MY DSM!!!!!!!!!!!

Soon as you get a $10,000 fine for some little thing, you'll rethink it.

Obviously you decided to pick and choose what you wanted to hear.

Everyone here is talking about it like fact that the legality of the part is some sort of secret. Who in any mind is going to say "Wow and I thought it was emissions compliant to have a wastegate dump!" Obviously this is something you already consider before you decide that you want one.

Why is it that you are pointing the finger at anyone? This isn't a thread about "what are the pros and cons about 02 dumps" he asked a question about what kind to buy, who makes good ones, and how it will function with his future turbo.

I'm glad I can write an entire post attempting to answer his question and you can litter threads with your finger pointing, grow up, stay on topic, answer the question, or don't waste everyone's time.

You talk like emissions isn't part of the deciding process. Heh, they're called screamer pipes for a reason.

The O2 dump is just an 02 housing with a wastegate tube that vents into the atmosphere. So yes it does replace the entire 02 housing.
I understand that you creep now but what makes you think that the new turbo will do the same? The only reason I ask is because different turbo designs (different waste gate divider designs I should say) will channel exhaust gasses differently.
The dump tube will connect up directly to the turbo exhaust outlet flange. The turbine exit will go directly throught the bend and into the dP/exhaust the wastegate opening will channel directly through the dump pipe and into the atmosphere. Here is a pic of mine, I know mine will differ because it is a 16g turbo

One thing I would consider with those housings... The dump tube is very short, this will probably mean that the front of your engine will be covered in soot. I would consider something that has a longer dump tube.
I know mine is sort in the picture but when I did a test fit I made it just as long as the dp up to the bend that goes under the oil pan, this will direct the soot from the front of the engine to underneath the car.
Just a thought. Obviously it wouldn't take much work to weld a longer leg on that if the buildup becomes a problem.

Read the ebay listing and you will see this part

"NOTE: Housing comes with longer dump tube than pictured to dump exhaust gasses under the car and out of the engine bay"

Sorry about that, I just scanned the listing... It does say TIG welded, that is a plus as I stated in one of my previous posts. What sort of coating is it? Just out of curiosity.

I think its just painted black, which is fine with me. I plan to paint it with VHT 1500* or getting it ceramic coated locally. Ive heard some good things about the product and like I said, the quality looks good in the pic so why not give it a try. Cant beat the price either.

I had a question about the nsindustries one, mainly on the sound. I've heard the soundclips of different o2 dumps but I can't really get any idea of how the pitch is? Does it sound ricer? Has anyone heard any stories about people getting their o2 dumps and hating the sound? Not the loudness, but the actual pitch?

I'm about to order the o2 dump from nsindustries. :thumb:

Trapspeed, in cali there are emission and noise ordinance abatement laws for " loud exhaust". Check you local county laws.

I have heard an O2 dump at 5k shift.... H O L Y M A C K E R E L !!!! You can hear it at a couple hundred feet!!! It is louder than any vented BOV.

It is beneficial to big turbos and high boost. I would definitely get one.

More volume and quicker the exhaust gas leaves the turbine area, the better. Exhaust gas scavenging is for naturally aspirated engine:>

I know about the laws and stuff. I figure that when I'm driving normally I usually shift at 3200 about, that's a little before my turbo starts spooling so the noise won't constantly be there unless I really get on the gas. I already have a 3" downpipe.

Now was the sound of the o2 dump nice? Or did it sound like crap?

Yes, it was VERY LOUD!!!. I heard it at moroso drag strip, it was a daily driven 98 GSX with a big 16g and fmic.
I removed my test pipe to race there and it sounded like an '85 buick with a bad muffler:)

TS, if you live where emission and noise laws are strict, DON"T GET IT!

if you like a quiet lexus ride, DON"T GET IT!

If you want to decrease spiking, a quicker spool up and scare people at the bus stop. GET IT!!!

I bought one from www.evilboost.com. Looks a lot like the one in the ebay add. Welds were fairly good (a little thin in spots BUT they will hold). 120 bucks shipped. Not bad. I just wish I had a little more money to spend to redo my exhaust so I could slap it on.

I noticed that no one in this thread has addressed the boost creep issue, which I believe is the main reason the original poster is looking into this mod. For what it's worth, I tried this when my 14b was creeping to 22 psi, and it had no effect on creep. Your mileage may vary, but sometimes theory doesn't line up with real world performance. Even with the external dump and the wastegate actuator rod disconnected from the wastegate flapper, it still crept to 17-18 psi. :) Only by porting the WG exit area and match porting the stock O2 housing could I get rid of that creep. There is more info about this on my website. And since the car sounded like a rusty old beater when it opened besides not helping the creep, I sold it 2 days after I got it. It sounds like shit, nothing like an actual external gate at all. Maybe I'm the only guy on the planet that had this part not help creep, but I wanted to give a heads up just in case I'm not the only one ;)

95GSXRacer is correct! I had severe boost creep even with a T-25 ( it would spike to 19 psi then settle to 14 psi.) I ported my exhaust maifold, T-25 turbine housing and O2 housing. and it was essentially gone with no sign of any boost creep:)

It does sound like a beater car cause the wastegate is not fully closed during normal driving.

I personaly love the sound my dump, here's a snap shot of mine on. And yes it dumps right onto the motor mount...im getting that taken care of

So, did you have a spike AND creep. Or just the spike?

FRAM!!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!

Noise will only exit the dump when the wastegate is open. If your shifting before your spooling, it won't be any different from now. Once that wastegate opens though.....
