Hey everyone. I need help with a 89 Plymouth Colt 1.5l SOHC...
Basically after driving 300 miles in a single sitting without ANY problems I park the car. The next day it would not start. Checked ECU-caps leaked. Replaced it. Car now starts but seems to be only running on two cylinders. When either pulling the 2nd and 3rd sparkplug or injector while car is running nothing happens. Still idles the same. Drives with hesitation. The exuast feels very strong like when you get two plug wires backwards on a 1g tsi. Im getting spark and fuel on both cylinders. Plugs are gapped correctly. Good compression across the board. Changed (new) fuel filter, plugs, wires, fuelpump relay, and fuel pressure regulator. No vac leaks detected. Still same problem occures. I'm thinking:
A) The ECU I swapped was for a 12valve instead of 8valve (not likely) and maybe that is causing something weird to happen.
B) Bad Distributor(i did clean my connections) and that is somehow messing up.
C) Loose Timing Belt(possible skipped a tooth) and that is causing my problem although the engine runs pretty smoothly on just two cylinders???? Maybe 2 of the 4 cylinders are getting oil from valves that are off???
D) Somehow the fuel comming from the injectors is putting out the spark???

Please anyone with ANY ideas or similar experiences help me out. I also have a thread going at 4g61t but this site is much more populated. I would really appreciate any help!

well if it was a 4g63 engine i would say that 2-3 are on the same coil setup and that the coil or trigger went out.

If the fuel is putting out the spark then your not getting enough spark .

pull the plug off the injector on #2 and pull the plg out of #2 and start the car and see what the spark looks like on the plug ( leave it in the wire and set on engine to ground it but make sure injector is unlugged too)

"If the spark is nice and blue do the same thing to the other dead hole."

If both have good spark then look at the injectors them self ( you could buy a set of injector O rings and swap the injectors from 1-4 to 2-3 and see if the problem follows the injectors too.)

Just trying to give you some ideas
