I was reading earlier in a thread how our cars are supposed to idle high (around 2k rpm) on a cold start and then start dropping lower and lower as it warms up. My first dsm did this so I'm assuming it's supposed to be like that. I've noticed that my current dsm does not do that. On a cold start up, it idle's just like it always does at 750 rpms. Normal or not?

The throttlebody's FAIV (Fast Air Idle Valve) is what is ultimately responsible for the elevated idle speed on startup which helps the car warm up.

Coolant runs thru the TB and once it heats up, the FAIV plunger extends to close off the bypassed air that causes the higher idle. A common mod is to either bypass the coolant lines from the TB and/or to purchase/make a FAIV blockoff plate to defeat this process.

If your car is second-hand+, then I would inspect the TB to see if the prior owner performed this mod :dsm:

You lucky SOB!!! I'd love for my car to idle normal!!! I'd say either you got lucky and the above mod has been performed already...or you have a functioning ISC.
Just noticed your right up the road from me Blaze. Just an FYI the Pull-A-Part yard off Morland Ave. has eight DSM's there right now if you need some spare parts. :) I love that place!

Where'd you see me at? What do you drive?

And no I highly doubt the mod was done. The car was 100% stock when i got it and the owner was an older guy (original owner).
