Hi,
The thing about these coilovers is that they are loud. I like the ride and the stiffness and handling. The thing is that these coilovers make alot of noise when I drive over bumps (even tiny ones) or shift the weight of the vehicle. It sounds as if the noise is coming from the top of the strut towers, and it is mostly from the rear end (They are the loudest, I guess). I checked the bolts on the top of the struts and they are still tight. It is metal on metal contact back there, but that is how the stock ones were. It seems to be even louder when I am driving on them in the winter (ND, it can get to -25 F, so I would suppose the fluid is quite a bit stiffer?) Has anyone else had these problems with struts or does anyone else have the nex coilovers? How can I fix this. It is really annoying.

Thanks,
Alex

I had a similar problem and my car made a loud banging noise, I was bottoming out. The car was too low and it caused all kind of noises and other problems. Since then I have bought 2 other suspension setups and I can honestly say that the cheaper the springs/shocks the worse the noise was and the ride. I even thought I had a drive train problem because my drive shaft was shaking so bad, when I raised the car up with better coil overs and good shocks (illuminas) the drive shaft wobble went away with all my other problems and noises. what I am getting at is.... how low is your car? do have good upper and lower shcok mount bushings, if these are not true coil overs what kind of shock/spring are you using?

Sorry, they are true coilovers. I am aness, I just forgot about this account. I have about 2 inch fender gap in the rear and 1.5 inches in the front. I don't think I am bottoming out, but I will look into that. The reason being that in teh winter it will make noise when I am driving at 5 miles per hour. I don't even have to hit a bump really.

I wonder if the struts could even be blows causing the banging noise. I had a firend that had skunk2 coilovers on their 2g and it would make all kinds of noise because it was too low and the strut shaft would get play in it and bounce around.

I betting its one of 2 things. Either your shocks are completly gone and every bump is just causing you to slam down on the bumpstops or the sleve for your coil overs are sitting higher than the bumpstops causing your Hat to land directly on the sleve. Are you sure you installed them correctly ? Was the Hat small enough to get cought on the cylinder ring allowing the shocks to be used ? Some ebay kits screw up the hat hole sizes.

Hmm. You might be right here. My buddies and I installed them, and we just bolted them right in. I don't think we could have screwed them up any. I don't know if it is too low. I have 18's, and the rear gap is about 1.5 inches roughly. So, do you think that it is too low and I am hitting or riding on the bumpstops. I will have to try to get it on a lift later and check it out. The suspension is still very still, so I doubt that it is bottoming out unless it is only an inch or less off the bumpstops.

Thanks

You have any pictures of the installation ? Beause its very easy to over look that " HAT " problem, then the nest thing you know there no suspension travel and your crushing your sleve. Ill make a diagram thing later. reply to this so I dont forget LOL .

Alright, I will try to get the car on a lift or a jack in the future. I am at college now and don't have my jack, but when I go home for the summer I will. Thanks.

Yea, I am pumped for summer too. I will try to get the pics up soon. Should I also lift it up some when I have it on a lift and see if it sounds different when I drive it?? let me know what you think.

Alright, I will look into it, but it will be a while. Maybe I can try to get someone to change my oil and put it on a lift for me. Shops don't like them low.
