Newbie and I need some advice.

Alright well as you can see from my ID I really like SRT-4's and I wish I could get one. I have the money to cover the car payment but not the insurance and the car payment, one of them needs to be lower in order for me to move to Florida and be able to live with my friend. I was thinking about a car in the range of $10-12,000, something pretty quick and nice looking that won't steal my wallet like a hurricane because of insurance. A couple cars that came to mind were Turbo DSM, and maybe a Prelude SH. I have a friend with a N/A 2g 1997 GS with 130,000 miles on it in great shape but it just does not have ANY get up and go... I have driven alot of cars but I am looking for advice on something that would be nice all around... I plan on modding but not much, a hear and there when I have the cash to spare kinda thing. I love turbo and I have driven quite a few GS-T's and two GSX's... the X is too expensive to insure compared to the GS-T... there is not much to me that can justify paying that much more to insure and to buy to have the GSX so I'm looking at a GS-T. I see that with about 70,000 miles they are in my price range for a 1998 or 1999 but I don't know how much curage I have to pull the trigger and then have some crank walk BS come along and wack my wallet. I have driven Preludes, nice but the interiors suck and the cloth seats are REALLY ugly. I want something that can put me in the 14 sec range fairly easily stock or with some minor mods... I was wondering what is out there that responds well to mods, looks nice, reliable and fits my price range. If I had the choice I would just get an LS1 but I am trying to avoid footing a huge insurance bill. Thanks for the help.

Here's a lil bit of info.. I'll be 23 this year, i have a turbo talon, full coverage. good driving record (1 speeding ticket since 16) and FULL coverage on my car is $750 every 6 months. If you can afford it go with the dsm. Very easy to pull one into the 12s.

I agree with endlessMyk on the fact that it is very easy to pull a DSM into the 12 sec range. But if the CW issue really scares you and you want to get a Honda instead, dont get a Prelude, get a civic hatch. The hatch is no where near as heavy as the Prelude, plus you can pick one up with a engine swap for around $7,000 or less, a friend of mine got a 93 civic hatch with a GSR swap for $4,000. If i were you i would still go for the DSM, IMO they are more fun to drive then a honda. Oh and as for the insurance on the AWD, my insurance company gave me a discount on my insurance because my car was AWD, the consider it a safer car the a FWD.

Definately go dsm. You may want to consider going with a 1g. I love mine. You can get a 1g with a good deal of mods for around $4000-5000. Generally those cars have upgraded most if not all the parts that would break on an older car. These cars will easily put you in the mid to low 12's. The insurance on a 1g is low and they also don't have the cw issue.
