2G New one....child seats...

Here's one you guys probably don't get that often...

Any of you ever put a child seat in the back? We're having a hell of a time finding one that will fit properly. The dealership keeps telling me there is an anchor in the back, but I sure can't find it. Dealership is too far away to go up and prove it to him.

Just throwing it out there....if anyone knows anything that might help, that'd be awesome.

there is an anchor in the back cargo area but it may have been taken out. ive seen it on other dsms but mine is stripped in the back so i cant take a pic for you. its just a small metal hoop on a hinge that lays flat on the floor

If you find the solution, let me know as I've only got a few months to figure this out for myself. Of course, the convertible probably changes things anyway. . .

Just to clarify, are you talking about an infant carseat or a booster seat?

infant car seat...and yeah, i think it says there are no anchors for the convertible...but hell, i can't find them in the hardtop either!!

For starters, you don't need the anchors/hooks. there are plenty of car seats that can use both the anchors or the regular seat belt in a car. Just go find one of these and try a few to find a good one that fits well.

NOTE: They do fit, but only the baby seat...nothing else. My wife and I just had our kid a month ago, and all of the newborn car seats lay down. This means that when you put the seat in, it has to go in the passanger side, and no one will be able to fit in the front passenger seat. It has to be moved almost all the way forward, and the seat back has to be leaning slightly forward to (for most seats... some aren't as bad, but not one will fit in the front seat with any of them). You can't fit another person in there until the baby moves to a seat that sits up. But, if all you're looking to do is at least fit the baby seat in, it can be done.

Target has them for sure. I'm sure other places do to. The regular belt just wraps through it, then you tighten it, and there's a clip that holds the belt in place.

Okay, here's the link to the carseat I have. They're really nice by the way... they can adjust a lot to accomodate for seats that have an angle, so the baby can lay flat. Trust me, you want to have this option when you get a car seat... anyway. Linky!

Haha yeah seriously....I like the rain though, so it doesn't bother me a bit... it does however, make me want AWD really really bad...

As for the infant seat(newborn-20lbs), you have to use the laydown, rear facing seat or a convertible child seat. These are held in by either a seat beat or latch system. The dsm isnt equipped for the latch so you are limited to the seatbelt method. All new car seats can be attached either way so just read the instructions that come with the seat for installation. And as stated, at this time, there is no way for it to work in a dsm if you have a passenger in the car. The pass seat has to be all the way forward and the seat back had to be disengaged for the seat to fit.

Once he/she(arent you having twin girls? you are just screwed ) reaches 20+ lbs or 26", you can seat them in a normal car seat but still rear facing. At this point, the anchor still doesnt come into play, it is more just a seatbelt seat. Once they reach 1yr, you can put them in a forward facing seat and then that is when you use the anchor(tether) system. The anchor is just a strap that goes from the seatback of the car seat and is mounted to a secure area towards the rear of the car. On a dsm, it is in the floor of the rear hatch(convertible doesnt have it so forget about it) but on suv's it is usually located on the ceiling near the rear hatch. On my Grand Prix, it is located on the package tray next to the rear speakers. Thats about as far as I am going on this so if you want more info, just pm me. I have been through this and researched because I have a 9mos old of my own.

On another note, what's the minimum age at which they're no longer required by law to be in a booster seat? If you've ever looked at the backseat of a convertible, you'd agree that there isn't exactly a lot of room for them to bounce around. I was thinking I could just toss them in with some packing peanuts and call it good!

Here in VA(I think it is a federal law now), the child has to remain in a booster seat untill their 6yr birthday, or 100lbs, whichever comes first. Check with Defiant and he can probably give you more accurate laws for your coast.

I actually found the bolts (no loop, just the bolts). Just for FYI for everyone, in mine they are the gold colored bolts all the way in the back of the hatch. You'd think they'd be closer to the backseat, but at least they're there. I had to order the loop, but I think the dealership is giving it to us free, since he couldn't find a price on it.

Im not sure on the 2g but on the 1g, it has a sticker beside the bolts that specifically states child seat anchor. Hopefully this will help parents in the future.

I couldn't find any infant seats for the back so my son rode in my wife's SUV until he fit in a forward facing booster seat.

I know this has been ages. I'm curious what kind of car seats did you use. I have a third one on the way and wanted to know if you can give some recommendations.
I've been looking through the internet and is just so much to go through. Plus the car seat reviews are much help or their are really challenged people out there. Anyways I started researching best infant car seats and came across this clek ling review. I don't mind the missing latch anchors I can do a good enough install with the seat belt. It looks compact what do you think?

That one is probably not going to fit. The base alone takes up a bunch of room and the back seats don't have much to give. I have an 18 month old and his toddler seat fits fine, albeit a bit tight.

Shop for one with your DSM for fit and then buy it online. Walmart or wherever I went was fine with me trying out seats before I bought them.

I use Recaro seats for my kids. I can fit 2 full sized ones in the back of my Spyder. It does get cramped though, especially with the top up. There are no anchors, so you have to use the seat belts to fasten them.
