I have read the how to's on tuning with a logger and SAFC, my question here for a quick response is that, I just put a jdm motor in my car with Evo VIII Injectors and a 2g maf. MHI Big 16g turbo and im going to put my evo IX pump in soon.My question is what do I set the % too on the safc? thanks
-Shane

Reset your ecu and set all the hi and low rpm settings on the safc to zero. make a 3rd gear pull and watch the logger. If you see knock add add a few % on the safc hi setting for the rpm where you saw knock. If you see 0 knock lean it out a % or 2 until you see a few counts of knock. Start with your boost low until you get familiar with adjusting the safc and how the car reacts to it. For the low safc settings you'll have to watch your fuel trims and adjust the low settings accordingly. It may take a day or 2 for the mid and hi fuel trims to settle in and the same after adjusting the low safc settings.

thank you very much, can you tell me what the other part is for? the part where on the left its a X% and the right has a X%.

I do not agree with the way DJ23GSX suggested. You are better off setting up your fuel trims and low throttle positions first. And a initial setting for your low throttle position would be,

Formula posted by spyderturbo007:
[(S / N) - 1] * 100 = C

N = New Injector Size
S = Stock Injector Size
C = SAFC Correction Factor

So in turn:

[(450 / 560) - 1] * 100 = -19.6%

Then obviously you will have to use a logger to dial in your fuel trims closer. Do this for a couple days to get everything close. Then you're ready to set the hi throttle setting. Use the settings from the low throttle position for your high throttle settings. Use your logger to do a wot run. Then look over the log and see if your knocking. If not you can pull a bit of fuel. Do this gradually and take your time. If you see knock add some fuel or back out the boost.

Read though this, it should explain almost everything you need to know.

I could help you out sometime I'm free, but I'm gonna be pretty busy for a while with finals and getting ready to install my motor. But setting up the S-AFC is pretty simple if you read thought the link I posted, just read though it a couple times and that should help. Do you have a logger?

What you suggested is great but those formulas never seem to pan out in any dsm i've been involved in tuning. I totally agree with watching the fuel trims and low safc settings but with my 560's 2gmaf and 16g my hi settings had to be quite a bit richer than my low settings thats why I suggested starting at 0 and gradually leaning out the safc hi settings.

Yeah true, and every car is different. The formula is good to get a base setting, to start off with and adjust your low throttle setting with and of course those numbers will have to be changed as you fine tune it. And with the high throttle points, I always used the fine tuned low throttle settings but richend it up a little to be safe before I did a wot pull. Then from there I would fine tune the high throttle by looking at the logs. That seemed to work best for me when I use to run 560's. But in the end both methods work, and should lead to the same ending.

I was always timid when tuning hence the reason I would always start pretty rich and then lean it out gradually. I spend too much money only to blow it up tuning it too aggressively. Fuel trims usually change with the weather and seasons up here in new england so I was constantly having to fine tune the safc.

I was looking at this method, only downfall is no timing tunning available, you can't control knock as good. You have to richen or lean it out only. You can't +- timming.

Yeah its a piggyback tuner all it really does is trick the ecu's airflow signal. Its been a decent method over the years on many dsm's.
