New brake pads ?

I just installed some new brake pads this afternoon, on the rear wheels. Followed the Haynes manual on every step. Everything went pretty smoothly, only took me an hour and it was my first brake job! I backed slowly out of my garage, to make sure they were working and everything, felt pretty good. I did a lap up the street and they make a weird noise when I brake. They also feel a little soft (maybe because I've been driving my mom's car around for the last couple days). Do new brake pads usually make a weird noise (they sound as if they are just sitting on my wheels and rubbing)? Do they have to break in or something? Thanks for any input.

Did you turn or replace the rotors?

You didn't touch the actual face of the pads or put anything on them did you? You might want to bled your brakes too.

No, I made sure I didn't get anything on the face of the pads. Thanks for the link!




They only make this noise when I was braking while turning...it kind of rubbery sounding...not metal on metal sounding. I guess it might just be that they are new.

you didnt bleed them is what I am reading... That is normal to make noise since the new brake pads have a thin coating on them that you should get rid of... it will make a squeeking noise...

And did you do the rotor test? because if u need new rotors, it can chew right through your new pads.

No, I didn't bleed them. I figured, since it's not a metal on metal noise, that it's probably just the pads. haha I was just nervous about the noise since it was my first brake job. What's the rotor test?

We need to know a few things. Is the car AWD turbo? What is the MFG. date? This info is located on the driver's door sill. AWD/turbo 2G built before 11/94 use vented rotors with narrower pads.
