well i went to get my cars breaks fixed..and and my check engine light was on so the guy checked it, and found out that my cat. isnt working, its "dead". and he called some guy and i guess i cant put a hi flow cat on, or cheang my headers. i wont pass smog....can someone assist me with this problom... i dont really know what to do.

although it might be more work it could be worth it.

what you do is buy (or if you still have it) the stock headers and a new cat and the day you go to get your car smoged reinstall those componets so you will pass smog and when you get back home reinstall the aftermarket ones you have and your good for another 2 years:thumb:

but this will still keep your CEL on sorry but hey extra performance right?

If i was you i would put a new cat on and leave it on until you start to make more hp. i see in you profile that all you have on your car is cbe, trust me when i say " taking your cat off will not give you a significant power increase". and besides that beautiful white paint will turn black in the back. just my .02

I'm guessing that your CEL was for a P0420 "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)". Keep in mind, that doesn't mean that the cat needs to be replaced. Basically the ECU is looking for a consistent voltage from the rear O2 sensor that indicates functionality of the cat.

If the rear O2 voltage begins cycling as the front O2 sensor does, then the cat needs to be replaced. However, if the rear O2 sensor is just dead, i.e. voltage of 0.0v, then the cat can be fine, but you'll definitely need a new sensor. Either problem will trip the P0420 CEL, so you really need to find someone with a logger, or probe the O2 sensor wires with a volt meter.

if i put a high flow will i pass smog?

and also it isnt my o2 sensor the guy that scanned my car said that it was my cat that wasnt working.

Well since your cat doesn't have an electircal connection, and is not controlled by the ecu, it cannot throw a code for a bad cat. The only way you can determine that is by the rear o2 sensor. Not every mechanic is honest and will most of the time try to sell you shit you don't need just to make their money.
