My car is totaled WTF

Well I swapped to a 6 bolt about a month ago. Last sunday I was rear ended pretty good by a truck when I was making a right turn. My hatch is pushed up and creased in the middle, The window is shattered, my bumper is pushed down, my tail lights are smashed, the rest of the rear end is pushed up to the fender wells, and my exhaust rubs on the ground. My insurance company says the damage is worth more than the car. I'm really hoping its not and I can get my car fixed. Im gonna get a second quote. It is pretty bad so I don't know. What do you guys think? I know its not alot of details but do you think its totaled. I'm gonna try and get a camera or scanner or something this weekend to post pics. if it is totaled I'm going to try and buy it back and part it out. Or if they can find me another that would be great. I just was letting you guys know a dsm may have lost its life this week. thanxs for reading

Usually you can make an agreement to get everything out of it. Pull that new 6 bolt!

Ah, jeeze. Sorry to hear, but yeah, that one sounds done. You may want to buy it, sell or salvage the parts, and start over.

Let them total it, and try to buy it back for a few hundred or they might give it back to you. I totaled my festiva, they gave me 1400 out of it, and gave it back to me for nothing. Get the car back even if you have to pay a few hundred, and part it out, or find a shell with no engine or a car that the engine is junk, and throw that 6 bolt in. Look at this as a good situation. It is always good when it is not your fault.

Totaled is only the monetary value they put on the car, not the value you hold for it. I've brought several cars back from the dead for less than the insurance company would. If you like the car, get a second or third quote, and definatly get the car back one way or another.

Definately buy it back. My '90 got totalled out, I got $3200 for it, bought it back for $250, took all the stuff I wanted to keep, and parted the rest out, after everything was said and done, I believe I actually came out ahead with what I had paid for the car and parts for it.

But yes, it is probably totalled, my Talon was rear ended as well, and the only visible damage was some rub marks on the rear bumper, a cracked drivers side tail-light, and a small crease above the rear driver's side tire. They stopped counting at $3000 to fix it, and they had only done the bumper, taillights, and gas-tank/shroud. He looked at the creases in the quarter-panel and said "Call your insurance company, it's totalled."

With damage as extensive as yours, it's pretty probable it's beyond even cheap repairs, since you can't just buy some new body panels and throw them on. I'd check it out tho, sometimes you can get good deals at body-shops if they're not busy and don't have much insurance work to do.

the thing that sucks, is when cars get rearended that bad...it shifts a lot of things around and as hard as you try the car will never run like it did before. But definately buy it back and part it at least....

I strongly disagree with that statement having been through the process. If repaired properly, you can get everything back exactly to factory specs. Plus it's a wonderful opportunity to go ahead and build it better this time.

well thanks guys for the response. They ruled it out today as totaled. Can you believe im getting 7,500 for it. shock the shiznit out of me. and Im buying it back for 650. Im gonna pull my motor and find another. hopefully I'll find a black 99 gsx. Oh my box and subs are totaled too, damn it.

Little off topic, but when the insurence totaled my 98 gs out. I got $8,250.00 For it. Paid 4500 for it :laugh: Cant complain.
